Honda should have offered black colour as well.
Here’s a Thailand spec car. Looks really wicked!

Below is a comparison of important features of V variant with other Sedans around the same Ex-showroom price.
I think the variant line up is good enough. If Honda wants to market the car as a premium sedan, then they should not have poverty spec versions. In any case, I dont think they are ever going to garner sale numbers of the past. So this variant mix has enough to keep decent numbers , without having to expand in the lower range and bring the car in competion with better loaded CSUVs. This 13-18 lac range fits well. It is obviously superior to all its sedan competitors in this iteration.

At this moment the all new City is priced a bit less than the old City in the V variant and ZX variant, VX in the new city is priced a bit higher. Just waiting for Honda to drop prices of the old City

Anyone who picked the old gen City recently, seeing this thread will be painful. Difficult times call for drastic changes and Honda had to bow down. Looks like they are making a U-Turn on selling both generations of City. It will be nice if they launch a old city variant with 2 airbags, ABS, basic bluetooth music system at a juicy price of 8lacs or even say 8.50L price. If Skoda can do I don't see a reason why Honda can't.

Thank you for the post. That chart summarises where City is with respect to competition, in terms of pricing. Pity, both low price and high price shout out "Premium" where the car itself does not.

The other differentiator could be having Diesel engine as there are only 2 cars with diesel engines. However it does not possess segment high figures, so nothing to boast about.

A third angle to look at could be to formally reduce price of old generation city, as many suggested and anchor the new car price to generate sales for the older one.

Odd enough, at this price, Honda city still offers the narrowest tyres in the entire segment. Now that is a differentiator

I do not understand the purpose of having higher variants of the petrol 4th Gen City around when they are just 15k-30k lesser than the 5th Gen. Why would you buy the 4th Gen, unless there is a feature deletion in the 5th gen variants?
Or they are just priming for heavy discounts on the 4th Gen?
Or does the 4th gen exist just to show how great the 5th Gen is, despite the inflated price?

There is a 2 lakh on-road premium for the diesel variants! I highly doubt it will find many takers with the narrowing gap between petrol & diesel prices.

V diesel costs around 14.2 OTR.
Verna S diesel costs 12.2 OTR.

I can see many diesel buyers moving towards Verna considering 2 lac difference.

True that. If a company like Skoda with less number of sale is able to make profit by selling a sedan at 7.49 and 7.99, for sure Honda can pull out an 8.5 lakh figure from the old gen City which runs on an already depreciated platform and engine.

Thinking in reverse - What happens if Honda now discontinues the 4th generation City?

They have a 'well-priced' (first impression lasts long) 5th generation everyone is happy with! Though starting prices have gone up from 7.42 lakhs when the 4th generation was launched in 2014, to 10.9 lakhs now in 2020.

Giving huge discounts on the 4th generation won't do well for their premium brand image - so I feel they might go ahead and discontinue it as soon as stocks are over.

That’s what I think too – maybe just a stock clearance exercise. I mean, why should they keep a manufacturing line open for an old variant, unless it is going to be renamed as something and fight out with the cars a segment down. And that can impact their own Amaze.

Agree and for sure this will cannibalize their amaze and new City sales as well. But that said, lets accept sedan sales have been falling and there is lack of interest among buyers. If anyone wants to claw back the sedan sales/interest they need to do something like Rapid Rider.

True - I think many people saying that this generation is priced well forget the Gen 2014 prices. I had paid ~10L on road Mumbai for the SV MT in 2014 and it was the middle variant out of 5 variants available - E, S, SV, V, VX.
The new prices are eye-watering in comparison IMO!
