re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

In Kolkata, we have two cars, a 2017 Elite i20 and 2018 S-Cross.
In Bangalore, I have a 2019 EcoSport.

So, that's 3 cars in a family of 3 people.

Two cars for now. I drive a nearly 5 year old Fiat Punto Evo. My father has 2012 Tata nano. We are in the search for a small automatic for my wife.

Voted for 1 car. Have 1 Scooter as well for local work. Wife is more comfortable riding the scooter than using the car due to notorious traffic and lack of parking in our area. And 1 Bicycle for me whenever I get time to ride it.

We only have one car at home. It's a Dzire ZXI+ AMT (2017) which is great for city duties as well as highways but we do feel the need for a scooter because of the traffic in Mumbai which is getting worse day by day!

re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

We have a Baleno for my father and mother and my Nano for my family's requirements. My Nano will most probably be changed with a Triber by this year end whether an AMT is launched by then or not, I so wish they launch it by October!

We need a 5+2 seater for maybe just 2-3 times a year, rest of the time we need a 3 or Max 5 seater, and Triber fits my use case scenario. My father owns a Baleno Delta 1.2 (2016) and mine is a Nano Twist XT (2014).

We used to all live together, but now my parents are in Dehradun (Uttarakhand) while we are in Manali (Himachal Pradesh).

Two cars & one bike.
Till 2017 end two cars were a requirement, but after that the running came down.
At this moment one car is sufficient for our daily need & trips.
Just kept two cars because we are a car loving family!

Love cars
Live cars!

Re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

My folks had 4 kids, so you can imagine why we've always been a multi-car household . In the 80s, we had 2 cars, which went up to 4 cars for a while in the 90s.

For the last decade or so, we've been a 3-car household. The only model that's remained a constant since '97 is my black Jeep .

Frankly, thanks to Uber & Ola, we could easily do with a car less. I foresee many two-car households moving to a single car because of the app-taxis.

Re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

We are two adults, 1 child and my mom who spends half her time with us and half her time in Pune. We have reduced from 3 cars to 2 cars. My 3 GT and my mum's i10 AT.

I like the idea of one small car and one do it all big car. But with my mom spending more and more time in Pune with her car, I don't really miss having two cars that much. Our driver can shuttle between my office and home if need be or one of us makes do with Uber whenever required.

I think access to Uber / Ola has definitely influenced our need for cars and perhaps in part its also my age (42) where I am much more careful and circumspect about incurring major capex if there are alternatives that keep money in the bank.

Re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

Managing with two cars:
Primary Car : Honda City (Diesel)
City Car/Beater Car : Maruti Ignis AMT (Petrol)

The City is my primary daily car for work commute and we also use it for all highway trips. Ever since my son was born, I began to realize the importance of a Huge Boot. We carry a lot of stuff on trips including a stroller. I don't think I can do with any other car with a lesser boot in my current situation. Maybe I guess just the Ciaz matches the City in boot size in the <= 20 L segment.

The Ignis is primarily for my wife's usage. The Ola/Uber is painful to use for dropping kids to Play School scenario especially when the distance is under 2-3 kms. I also grab the Ignis for all the within city errands where parking space is a premium and can easily zip thru traffic. Also helps that it is an AMT in case there is bumper to bumper traffic.

Re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

I have two: a 2014 manual Swift ZXI and a Nano XTA. We don't have two wheelers, so nano is used for city errands. Swift is an all rounder for city and occasional highway trips. But, I may now consolidate and just get one small automatic car. Unfortunately, I don't see any good and safe options in the market other than GT TSI; And, though the car is good, I still don't have the confidence to put money on this car due to various reasons.

Re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

In Bangalore, family of three and two cars. A 2014 Honda City for the long runs and a 2014 Tata Nano Twist for the within city stuff. Because of the parking issues and the congested roads, all of us prefer the Nano for our local outings. Wife uses the Nano a lot, the City is mostly parked in the apartment basement as I use the office cab.

And a TVS Wego for the even shorter dashes, thinking of buying a small electric scooter for my daughter.

Voted for 1 car.
We are thinking of buying a small automatic as a second car.
At the same time, I am also thinking of upgrading my Swift to a sedan or muv ( haven't discussed it with wife though)

Re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

We have two cars and two bikes. My 10 year old Punto is being used by my wife for driving to work. Bought a second hand Linea Tjet last year for taking care of the highway drives. Honda activa used by my wife for local conveyance when ease of parking is must. My FZ-S was my office transport until a couple of years ago before I switched to office cab.

Tjet is running at a rate of about 8~10K kms /year. All the other three vehicles are running <1000 km in a year since the past one year. But having these, gives us a lot of flexibility for commute.
