I had read somewhere that they are opting for 2.6L because of low end torque and mileage. And I've also read from many reviews that 2.2L also delivers around 11-12kmpl. So, I can't understand Force motors' decision regarding 2.6L then?

You are not alone, no one can. To quote Winston Churchill, Force Motors is "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma".

It could be because it was easier to comply with BS6 norms using the 2.6 engine, or it could be any of a 100 other reasons. Your guess is as good as mine!

Force has 1 engine to play with that does duty on Cruiser to traveler to their Mini bus that carries 30+ people. I would be surprised if they put in the money to convert the 2.2L to BS6 just for a vehicle that sells so less, makes no sense.

New Force Gurkha will come with large windows, calls it Panoramic window and metallic 4×4×4 mnemonic.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

I seriously feel that the launch and 'teasers' are getting stretched way beyond necessity and to talk about what!!!

I mean we are not even talking about its off-roading capabilities which is actually the niche item, some of the things which are being spoken about are present in even entry level cars now.

It would have been worthwhile to speak about

1. Approach, departure angles

2. Not just presence but how a Snorkel helps and in what situation

3. Purpose of Front and Rear Differential lockers

4. Crawling function in off-road conditions

5. Safety features (if added) etc.

But what do we see being teased about

1. Armrest

2. Panaromic 'Side-Window'

3. Fender lamps - God save me

4. Fabric Seats with lumbar support

5. Newly designed 'Shark Grill'

I mean seriously, who are we kidding now?

And the biggest negative point common from all erstwhile Gurkha owners is ASS, not a word is being 'teased' on whether some work has been done on this front or not... that would be a dang if it ain't!

Gurkha's off-roading prowess is well known and that is most likely going to be same as before. But where Gurkha lacks is the basic creature comfort for someone to own as a lifestyle family vehicle. Hence most of the teasers are related to that and Force is probably trying to fix that.
But the biggest problem with Gurkha is the lack of service centres, horrible warranty (I think 18 months), and support from the Force service centre. Come on, who in the current age runs around looking for actual OEM (link (Extreme xtreme! Force Gurkha Xtreme 4x4 ownership review)). If such trivial issues are not fixed, there is no point in launching a vehicle. It cannot come anywhere close to Thar sales even if the off-road credentials are far better.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

As per the vehicle displayed in the auto expo, it had jump seats behind the middle row of seats, but the current teaser hints at different seating layout without any jump seats. Are they going to have multiple seating layouts?

Hoping the new Gurkha teasers are a true reflection of the actual vehicle. If they do, they will have a successful outing with this one.

What company makes such a statement for components like AC which are inbuilt.
I can understand tires and batteries but AC?

Force needs to put out a lot more work on their basic customer management rather than just churning out another model after a decade. More so because in all probability this is the same archaic 2.6L tuned to BS6 specs. That was a lame engine then. Would be a lame engine now.

I have tried again and again to try and like this vehicle to buy it. Was nearly sold on the xtreme but then thankfully better sense prevailed and I didn't burn my money.
After reading your post I am going to wait a few years and not give in to temptation so easily! I am hoping all the people who booked the Thar and tired of waiting for it endlessly make a beeline for this one and it wakes up the sleeping after-sales and service network into more hectic activity.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

How can it not come in AT is beyond me. If it is going after lifestyle segment then AT should have been first feature to be built. Is there a reason not to have AT. If it had then would have for sure looked it up.

If the engine is powerful enough Gurkha would be a logical winner ...

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

This car is going to be a big bummer (already one) and my prediction is that it is going to be priced at atleast 17.5 to 18L ex-showroom. Bye bye Gurkha. Who on earth other than this teambhp thread is caring about such teasers ?
