I really don't think it'll be a big hit in India. Yes FE matters and being green helps, but at that price point, I can't see someone genuinely buying a Prius over a normal petrol/diesel sedan.

Dont think they have any actual target customers in mind before making this launch. Dont think many people will be interested at all in this product.

If Toyota want to sell Prius in India, they should build it here & may export too. Why to expect duty free? It's not a medicine which needs concession. If car manufacturer want to sell thru CBU, CKD should pay duty, it's business decision. If Toyota or Honda are going to sell these cars at price points of TATA nano, GOI must do duty free & should give free land too.

^Forget it.

It is too high-tech and it is their flagship product.

Such models are only built in their home country, Japan.

i had driven Prius in Australia. then i was not much familiar with torque, BHP etc.
IIRC, it was a good car to drive with some gadgets continuously showing the amount of energy conserved etc. Being gadget freak, i loved the car interior.

it was quite silent at start up. Drive had nothing big to write about
But nothing worth 26 lakhs, price between 7 to 10 lakhs sounds good

The Civic hybrid at 21 lakhs was overpriced and found few takers. Toyota's going to have a hard-sell on this one. If anything, it makes the Civic hybrid seem reasonable.

However, there are two key differences:

1. The Prius looks like an entirely different car. Compare that to the Civic hybrid, which had an identical petrol sibling at 1/2 the price. Of course, the discerning car buyer will consider that a similar sized Toyota Corolla Altis starts at 10 lakhs, and a substantially larger sedan (Camry) costs the same.

2. Toyota will sell this car to hoteliers the same Camry (EPCG) way. That will ensure some sales, though at 12 - 14 lakh rupees each. And hotels are, more than ever before, very keen to promote that "green" environmentally friendly image. Nothing like 10 Prius' standing outside the reception to send that message home.

+1 to that. I had exactly the same stand in the Civic hybrid thread. Stop whining about import duties! You wanna sell it here, BUILD IT HERE.

1: ITC hotels who have started an eco 5 star hotel would snap it up gladly. They use floro green and orange citys at the moment

2: China are building Prius's

Again if 200+ idiots are paying 25lakhs for a Beetle - the Prius looks like pretty good value - especially on the mileage kya hai factor
