In a sluggish market, Lamborghini India grows

At a time when car sales have plummeted, reports suggest that Lamborghini India is set to post a 30% rise in sales in 2019.

Lamborghini is likely to become the first super luxury carmaker in India to sell more than 50 cars in a year. Thanks to the Urus SUV, Lamborghini's annual sales in 2019 could cross 65 units.

According to Sharad Agarwal, head of Lamborghini in India, the company has received over 50 bookings for the Urus and there is a waiting period of over 6-8 months. Over 70% of Urus buyers are first-time Lamborghini customers.

In 2018, Lamborghini sold 45 vehicles - doubling its volumes. The company is aiming to sustain the double-digit growth in 2020 and achieve 100 unit per annum sales in 3 years.

I'm not surprised. It's the easiest/cheapest way to get into the Lamborghini door.

This is also probably the most profitable car for Lambo since there's an Audi Q8 underneath that thing. It's a win-win. The customer can afford one and Lambo makes the most profit from this model.

It is also the most Indian roads friendly Lamborghini which can be used regularly. Also the traditional Lamborghini performance and looks are not lost despite being a SUV.

That's awesome, but expected .

Even when spending 3 crores, Indians want practicality. IIRC, 90% of Porsche India's sales are from its SUVs (majorly) and the Panamera sedan. And it's not just an Indian thing. Worldwide, luxury customers are moving away from coupes, toward SUVs. That's why Rolls Royce, Bentley etc. now have SUVs in their line-up. Heck, I expect Ferrari to come out with a proper SUV too someday.

While a sluggish economy affects HNIs just like everyone else, their lifestyle rarely changes when the market is down. Reason = accumulated wealth & tons of liquid $$$. The smart guys maintain more than enough "working capital" to meet day to day expenses. Fact = many 1 - 2 crore cars today have a waiting period.

Rightly said. It's not just Indians who prefer SUVs.
Ferrari is actually working on a Crossover-ish SUV that will rival the Lamborghini Urus. It's called 'Purosangue' internally. We may get to hear more about it in 2022

This is a good video to understand this phenomenon. Watch at 26:35 onwards. We can see why these ultra HNIs are different from HNIs or upper middle class when it comes to buying a car.

#Sincetheymadeitpossible

This shows we all love SUV’s with sports car DNA embedded in it. Perhaps, Ferrari, Bugatti should take a cue from this

Re: In a sluggish market, Lamborghini India grows

The trend, IMHO, would plateau off in a few months. After all how many ultra HNI's and HNI's do we have?. A few hundred perhaps.

They also don't like to keep them for long as the SUV trend may change in future and / or the most likely case, get caught in scams. My friend, who works for customs, once told me that IT/ED depts automatically gets notice when such cars enter India.

So they may also enter the second hand market or auction room soon. So folks, don't loose heart and wait for it .
