Three-row version of the RX SUV costs about Rs 30 lakh less than the RX 450h; to replace the five-seat RX 450h.

Lexus India has launched a three-row version of its RX SUV – the RX 450hL – and priced it a whopping Rs 30 lakh less than the standard five-seat RX 450h; the long-wheelbase RX costs Rs 99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings have opened for the new model, though deliveries will commence later.

Lexus say the price reduction hasn’t come about from deletion of features but has been a result of a pricing correction to help boost sales of the RX. Interestingly, the RX 450hL will be replacing the standard model going forward, meaning there will no longer be a five-seat RX available.

In terms of design, the front-end of the 450hL and 450h are more or less identical, and even in profile the SUVs look very similar, barring the longer rear overhang to accommodate the third row of seats. Even the rear-end of both models look the same.

So finally, they have realized "Price Correction" was required. Now this kind of premium around 20-25 % over the Germans will be interesting and should have been the ballpark at the launch. X5 is around 80 lac and the new GLE will be around the same. BMW has priced X7 very competitively at 99 Lac and is a size larger than anything else including this XL variant of RX. So, for me, the Important question is who will be the potential customers for this SUV!

I think you are forgetting that the 450hL is a hybrid. The X7 does not have any option like that. But the biggest selling point of the Lexus might be that the Lexus has a relatively more handsome grill than the X7.
So the Lexus looks better, has much better track record of reliability and is more eco-friendly.
