Re: Delhi: Women drivers to be exempt from odd-even scheme

A video article by Shekhar Gupta on YouTube, about Delhi’s smog and root causes is quite instructive and exposes the pathetic nature of governance in the country.

In a late night notification, the government has finally exempted EVs from the odd even Scheme.

I've attached the gazette notification for exemption granted to EVs.

Re: Delhi: Women drivers to be exempt from odd-even scheme

Just yesterday I witnessed stubble burning in Zirakpur, hardly <0.5 kms from Panchkula. It was being done in quite a wide area, but didn't see any sign of any action at all. Now one can imagine if that's the situation in Tricity, how can it be controlled in far away villages !

Similar to this I drive to CHD from Rajasthan on 29th, and the stubble burning scene started a little before Bathinda and continued all the way till Chandigarh, no sun to be seen across the 200 kms distance mentioned above.
With this level of widespread pollutants originating from such a wide area, an odd even scheme or green crackers will be able to provide only partial relief at best

As per latest info published in times of India today out of the total number of vehicles in Delhi . 22% are personal cars , 56% are 2 wheelers. Now if you exempt 2 wheelers from this exercise how will it be successful ? And also exempting women drivers. Rather terrible planning just short term thinking and nothing more.

Add to this the most of 2-wheelers are not BS4, are poorly maintained & barely have PUC checks done.

Have authorities ever calculated their own carbon footprint, except for strategic purposes? Leave aside their vehicles, their offices & operations are sufficient for global warming IMO.

Unfortunately, politicians are already claiming 25% reduction in air pollution (with sizeable other side refuting claim) before start of the event. Interestingly, former party's candidates are the ones who have openly opposed action again stubble burning (one of the bigger contributors) in Punjab.

Restricting Stubble-Burning as Haryana has done to a great extent as compared to Punjab (which has failed miserably... blaming my mother state) is only immediate solution for it will effectively bring down pollution to half the current levels.

Other means involve stricter monitoring of construction activities to ensure construction dust is crubbed by use of water sprinklers & reusing construction waste (& plastic waste) in transport infrastructure creation across India.

Indian Govt needs to have a scrappage scheme so that vehicles older than 15% years are off regular public duty & come out only for special events. If they could introduce the Noteban & GST overnight, they should also do the same. West Bengal Govt is already taking such action, as I read in other thread, which I strongly concur & support.

Wow, someone has lady luck on their side!

Yesterday, the Air Quality Index all over NCR was off the scale (beyond 999).
Today the FIRST day of this ODD-EVEN tomfoolery, wind flow patterns worked in our favour and the AQI is down to less than 200 in most places.

I am guessing God has a car each with odd and even number plates. Or better still has already moved on to an EV. Hence the sudden change in visible pollution today and as a result much more stronger case would be made against private cars on the road.
