What will they do with this car? Will they drive it on road? What if someone bangs it?

Wow...What a waste of rare natural resources. The arrogance of humans is really everywhere. Not possible to find a place without it. Anyway - so many diamonds, so most likely they are just diamonds per say. Something substandard perhaps. That would make it a cheap PR stunt too.

If only efforts are invested in something more imaginative and useful by the folks. And then, these are diamonds. So they are not going to be discarded after the event. They'll be removed from their adhesive fitment, polished and cleaned & will actually be bought by some customer as "NEW" for their loved ones in some jewelry. Great.

And whats with the differently coloured bonnet and other pieces? Ran out of diamonds did they?

Slightly off topic but diamonds aren't that rare. Its just due to a monopoly that their prices are high. There are godowns in multiple countries filled with diamonds, but only a limited amount are ever sold to purposefully drive the price up and make more money.

No, they are not diamonds, they are diamond look a like CZs i.e., Cubic Zirconia which were man made. Though they sell them at a good premium, their making cost is a minute fraction of the selling price.

CZ diamonds are artificial diamonds, or in the true sense they are not diamonds at all!

And also it helps them gain the much needed attention without having to pay for comparatively expensive advertisements.

Yes thought so. Makes it such a lame attempt! Especially since its not looking any good either . Looks like this is how the diamond industry disposes off its surplus / defective produce.

Too much bling and would too much attention.

I would say its just a good marketing strategy for the brands who worked on the vehicle and nothing more.

Damn, if anyone is to own this, biggest task is to count the number of diamonds at the end of the day. Folks have anyway ruined the car, atleast they could have selected a black Merc.

The title is mis leading and so is the promotion stunt. Talk about money but no class! As mentioned above, this is a lame attempt but unfortunately will still work in India and the Gulf where people associte these gaudy items with wealth.

Also, diamonds are not rare, the supply is tightly controlled by few miners and essentially is a lobby to keep rates from crashing.

These cubic zircons (CZ) are essentially glass like with hardly any value and they will be discarded post the event, adding to the waste. No worries about them landing up in anyone's jewellery.

re: A Mercedes C-Class, studded with 3.5 lakh cubic zirconia 'diamonds'

Just to clarify the confusion, CZ diamonds are not glass like nor are they natural. These are man made and these CZ diamonds are one of the few elements closest to mimicking the real diamond. Their hardness is truly closest to diamond and that is the reason why the fashion jewellery industry uses them so much. Its very cheap but holds immense value for money when compared to the real deal.
Swarovski diamonds are all CZ diamonds. They are called crystals but have the same composition of Cubic Zirconia.

So much money spent, but the fit and finish making it look CHEAP.

Level of finishing reminds me sparkling cardboard car(??) I made for "Best out of waste" competition in school, and
No prize for guessing, I was never rewarded .

Only on Team-BHP can such a discussion share some pearls of wisdom - thanks for the comments, guys! Learnt a thing or two from your comments.

End of the day, they got what they wanted = publicity! As a PR exercise, this is a success. In the jewellery industry, the more people talking about you, the better it is for business.

It is indeed a black or dark blue coloured car (look at the rear bumper or the running board). They have pasted the so-called diamonds on patches of paper like white material, and slapped them onto the car, in a rather crude manner.

Anyhow, what a pathetic attempt at making a good looking car look garish!

Its just a wrap, with Zirconium diamonds on it. Post the exhibition, it will be peel off and the diamonds will be separated

Is it Zirconium or Diamonds? If its former, then this is cost cutting PR exercise. This would be similar to Kaptur vs Captur story and might end up as a negative publicity.

Last edited by ajmat : 16th October 2019 at 11:59. Reason: Correcting the spelling of Zirconium
