![]() My dad bought his first car, a Premier Padmini, without a test drive, since he did not know how to drive a car. He learnt driving the car after he bought it. So living up to tradition, I bought my first (and only) bike, a Hero Honda CBZ, without a test ride, since I did not know how to ride a bike when I bought it.

![]() All the cars that we own have been bought without test drives. We bought our cars based on their purpose, so when we wanted a hatch back for city use we went ahead and booked the polo based on reviews from this forum. We also had a requirement for a 7 seater vehicle and the only car we had in mind was the Innova, so even that was picked up without a test drive.

![]() I bought my first car Maruti Swift in 2006, without test driving it! Reason: I did not know to drive then; But gone through every bit of the car through reviews / feedback in Team-BHP. That gave me the confidence to buy the car. Later learnt driving in the same new car. When I bought my next car a 'Rapid', it was almost the same story as the 'Test Drive Car' was not available when I visited the Dealership. But I 'decided' on the car, by then. Subsequently, the dealer sent home the test vehicle as my wife also wanted to go for a test drive. With regard to my bikes, I test drove them, before I bought it.

Infractions: 0/1 (5) | ![]() Yes, I boooked my Figo 1.5D on September 23, 2015 (launch date!) without test drive. The closest I had seen was a locked show car which was just unloaded at the dealer yard with its stickers still on, a week before it was launched. I was following the launch of the Figo Aspire 1.5D and was blown away both by the performance and the lower costs involved. I was initially put off from the Figo because of a rumor that its engine will be watered down to 85 bhp from 100 bhp one on the Aspire. I had even booked a Celerio AMT for 10k just a week before the launch because of this rumour. On the launch date, when I saw the pricing and the engine specs, I decided to buy the Figo and forfeit the amount I paid to book the Celerio(the Celerio dealer later gave me some music system as a compensation). I walked in to the Showroom on the late evening of September 23, 2015. I found them wrapping up the New Figo's launch ceremony with balloons, glitters and carpets. I walked up to the salesperson and asked, "Is this the new Figo?". He replied in a polite neutral tone that it indeed was. I told him that I was booking it. He told me that he won't be able to take my booking because they haven't worked out the prices at that place. He also tried to explain to me that the prices that were announced are for cars sold in Delhi only. I told him that I had followed all the fresh launches for the past few years and had compared the difference between the prices of cars being sold in Delhi and at my place. I also added that I was fairly sure of what they will be quoting for the Base Model Figo 1.5D the following day. He still persisted but some higher-up in a casual T shirt strode up and made him take my booking amount(20k) for the Base model, white color. The salesperson tried to explain to me the list of features I could get by shelling out a paltry 30k and said that the higher variants will have shorter waiting period. I listened to him attentively and calmly reassured him that I am not going to regret my decision at all. The showroom folks gave a few calls trying in vain to upgrade to the next higher variant. Finally I was given an ultimatum that a silver color car is available and that I had to take it or leave it. I was firm with going for the Base model and agreed to settle for a different color. The car arrived at the yard on December 23, 2015 and was delivered to me on January 5, 2016. Last edited by Aditya : 6th November 2019 at 08:53. Reason: typo fixed as requested |

![]() I bought my motorcycle (Splendor+) and car (Wagon R) without a test drive because it was my first bike and car purchase respectively. I learned to ride and drive only shortly before the each of the purchases ![]()

![]() Bought the first gen Swift Diesel, first gen Figo, Celerio AMT (the first one in Bangalore) without a test drive. We were so confident about its capabilities that we went to the showroom booked it. With Swift Diesel, the waiting period was >6 months, but managed to get one in two weeks with a "Recommendation Letter" ![]()

![]() Hi all.. On reading the title i thought i don't have anything to contribute but then... In 2007 Swift was selling like hot cakes and had a huge waiting time. At that time i was looking to purchase my first car, and luck happened to be on my side. We bought my Pearl White Swift which was allotted to someone else.. We went for Dushera vacation and drove back in a brand new Swift! Without a test drive nor a PDI. Same with my first bike Bajaj Avenger In 2006. The bike was transported from Vijayawada by train and we got it delivered in Visakhapatnam. Again no test drive nor a PDI.

![]() I have bought 2 cars without a test drive . 1. I20 Magna 2009 , was an inpromptu decision which I made just looking at teh shape and the looks of it . Complemented by the safety features , I got a car which I have driven about 56k in 9 years . 2. Ford Figo Titanium Duratorq 2012 . Drove about 179K in 6 years . Both the cars were bought without any test drive . Just had reviewed the features before deciding on the model . And never once in all these 10 years did I think about this. Great thread

![]() Bought my first bike, the Splendor without a test ride, I don't think test rides were even offered. My first car the M800 pre owned, was also without a test drive, mainly because I just knew the basics of driving, and there was no way I could have tested anything through a test drive. Post that all vehicles have been test ridden, but to be honest the TD was done after I was pretty much decided about the vehicle to go for. TD was only to ensure there were no major deal breakers popping up.

![]() All of my rides have been bought without test drives ![]() Our first family car was the Tata Sumo, back in 1998 we purchased this after considering our huge family. 1st choice was the Padmini Premier. Had loads of fun in this car, learned driving on this giant. ![]() In 2013 our 2nd car was Ertiga, again there was no car in this price bracket which could sit 7 people and have a comfortable ride with hassle free service experience. Still own this beauty. ![]() A month back I bought the Interceptor 650 again without a test drive, I was never a bike guy. But this was a heart over brain decision which I am glad worked out for me and I am loving this. A ownership thread is coming soon so watch this space. ![]() Last edited by amrutmhatre90 : 29th October 2019 at 19:29.

![]() Test drive? When I bought my first car, a M800, I did not know to Drive! A couple of kind hearted friends drove the brand new car home for me from the showroom. The following weekend I hired a driver, but I took the wheel and the driver guided me. We did a 700 km round trip. It was much easier for me to learn driving on the highway. By the time I returned to Bangalore, I was good enough to take the car to work daily! Last edited by veyron_head : 29th October 2019 at 19:48.

| ![]() We got our Hyundai Santro Xing without a test drive. The Hyundai Accent GLE later was a pre-owned purchase from my Mother's colleague who was moving abroad. It was a really good looking car in Black colour. The later purchases (Swift, Grand i10 and SX4) were after multiple test drives of almost all the cars in the segment. The TVS Jupiter was bought after a nice long test ride comparing the Wego and Jupiter. We had gone to test ride the Activa. But the Honda showroom in Pune were too busy to offer a test ride and it was more of "buy if you want" attitude. ![]() With Test drives for cars being so easily available and many providing the service at home as well, I am almost sure that my next car/scooter purchase will be after reading the relevant articles on Team-BHP and taking a test drive.
