I really don't think activity on a team bhp translates to the actual sales in the country. Very wrong way to measure a car's success/failure. The Hector thread is much more quieter than Harrier, but we all know Hector has decimated Harrier in terms of sales almost every month.

Popular threads on Team BHP != Highly successful car!

Tata needs a killer pricing for Safari to succeed. And I don't think that will be the case. At rumoured 26-27L OTR prices of safari, the new XUV/Hector will continue to rule the segment.

I don’t know if it is the graphics, but the alloy wheels are looking massive on this vehicle.

Got this as a WhatsApp forward. Safari aside Harrier with Tata's AR tool.

Any pics from showrooms or stock yards?
Since the launch is just a couple of days away, It is surprising that no real pics have surfaced yet.

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

Looks can be subjective. For me, from the side angle, the rear part from behind the 2nd row windows looks butt-ugly, as though they cut off the Harrier at that part and pasted something lying around. It spoils the smooth lines till 2nd windows and looks jarring. The D Pillar is too wide, maybe bigger 3rd row windows might have looked better. That pillar spoils the look from the side.

Damn!!

It is always the minute details which seal the deal for me, and Tata has put in a few of them which simply stole my heart. Just look how well integrated, and neatly done are two details:

This mid console belongs to the premium segments, at least 2 segments above:
The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!-safari-console.jpg

This third row AC vent, ah man, just look at it. What a neat integration
The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!-ac-vent.jpg

I hope they have done something similar for middle row passengers too, this simply SCREAMS PREMIUM!

Putting everything aside, for once, I got a feeling like there is a truly premium people mover.

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

Beloved Tata Motors, the new Safari sure does pack a punch especially considering the interior. If I were to buy it the seat covers definitely need to be dark if nothing else as I have two kids . Will be very difficult to maintain.

Please atleast give an option of black seat covers from the factory itself. That's my only feedback.

Regards,
From the one considering to buy his Third Safari.

I don't see the "cockpit inspired" emergency brake pedal - a welcome change for sure. While is rear is bit distorted, I think Tata has done tremendous work inside. Waiting to see it in person now (things grow on you over time like Creta's rear profile, Lexus front fascia, etc)

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

As per motor beam, the price is going to be 2 lakh on top of harrier.

Quoting from motorbeam website

https://www.motorbeam.com/tata-safar...ead-of-launch/

The new Tata Safari is expected to be priced around Rs. 2 lakhs more premium over the Harrier. Bookings are likely to commence from 26th January onwards while the market launch is expected sometime in February.

Now, if this is true, I am not going to pay 2 lakhs extra for a Safari badge. I know it has better interior than Harrier, but still 2 lakhs is on the higher side. In Bangalore, it will cost 28 on road.

With this price, we are forced to evaluate the value that it will bring as compared to Harrier and other new launches.

I think its better to wait for XUV500, see the value that it offers and then make a informed buy.

Also a request to GTO and others who are evaluating this new Safari, please evaluate also in terms of this value aspect. How much premium it deserves if someone does not need those extra 2 seats.

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

If one is willing to spend 28 lakhs on a car, it is better to add a few more and buy a Fortuner or Endeavor. Even the Harrier prices are very high. Yes, the car has a lot going for it but for that amount of money, it is better to invest in a proven body on frame SUV.

Till 2 years ago people could buy a very comfortable Automatic Hexa for 20 lakhs on the road with a Harman sound system, a 400 NM torque engine and a superb suspension. Today a 5 seater Harrier costs more. There may be some additional features, but would people spend 30 lakhs on a new product which is named after an SUV that competed against the Scorpio?

I think they are testing waters. Going by Altroz pricing for iTurbo, I feel Safari base price (Manual model) may start little bit over XT and XMA of Harrier model i.e., between 16.5 - 17.5 L going all the way up to 22 - 23 L for XZA+ DT model.

Hector 7 str starts at 14.65 L Diesel MT, so Safari has to come with all the basic safety features thrown in and all the basic luxury, with drive mode selector (min functions), alloy wheels as standard.

TML cannot afford to price the base more than maximum 2L over Hector 7 str.

As a surprise, TML should have the Pano roof as a differentiator in all their Safari variants.

They need to understand, any wrong pricing of Safari can also affect Harrier sales as its riding on a thin thread.

Hope sanity prevails in the closed doors of TML and they price it very sensibly.

Otherwise its going to give free run to all the upcoming 7 seaters.

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

Rs. 2 Lakhs premium over Harrier will translate to a model range from approx. Rs. 18.5L to Rs. 27L, OTR GZB for similar variants spread (XE to XZA Plus Camo Edition). A sweet spot will be between Rs. 20L to Rs. 25L where variants like XMA to XTA+ may retail.

Maybe Tata will try converting customers eyeing the top end Seltos, Creta and Hector which too retail between Rs 18L to Rs 22L to its fold with this Seven seater. These buyers in themselves present sizeable potential, nevermind the Endeavour and Fortuner shoppers. Among other 7 seaters, I can recall the top end Marrazo, Hector Plus, Scorpio, XUV 500 and Innova in the similar price range. The Endeavour 4x2 with 2.0 ltr engine is Rs.36L car! I am aware there's no comparison between the Endy and Safari from the SUV capability POV, but Safari may hardly be overpriced with this pricing. I think the market Tata is trying to address with new Safari is totally different to what the OG model catered too. Whether it will succeed, only time will tell.
