Making it BS6 compliant is.

I for one would be the happiest of the lot if the 1.6 does come out once again. Spare parts availability and cost were some of the issues I was worried. With localization, both these issues would be sorted for sure.

Why did gaadiwaadi mask the number plate ?

If it was not masked, we could have checked the details.

So now Maruti is gonna sell both the 1.5 & 1.6 lit side by side? This looks like Bajaj having a thousand variants of the Pulsar at 5-10 cc gaps!

Also with the 2 lit Fiat diesels performing well in the Compass, Harrier & Hector, wouldn't it have made more sense to try and get that motor into the Maruti lineup? Anyone in for an S Cross 2.0?? I know I am!

350 Nm of torque & Maruti Suzuki's light build quality.

Good car for a drag race. Will mostly be horrible out on the road with all the weight upfront! The old Zen diesel is what suddenly came to mind!

I doubt if Maruti is ever going to sell both the 1.5 and 1.6 at the same time. The most sensible reason for Maruti approaching Fiat for 1.6 is its supposed inability to get its own1.5D ready for BS6, and it could be a cost factor as well.
So either Maruti has ordered a limited number of 1.6 diesels from Fiat until it gets its 1.5 BS6 compliant or it sees the 1.6 as its sole Diesel engine.

Secondly why would Maruti ever look at the 2.0? It just makes no sense. The S-Cross,Ertiga and the Ciaz can easily live with either of the 1.5 or 1.6 diesels considering their segment and also their Body weight.

On seeing the news, I am grinning stupidly since morning.

On the flip side, can this be the variant restricted to Export markets?

Suzuki has stopped offering diesels in other markets( EU).

Many are stopping Diesels in EU. So, Fiat may be feeling the heat and might have given such an irresistible offer to Maruti in India where the Diesels won't get such an abrupt end.

Looks fishy. Could be a much older photograph or they could simply be studying emission control strategies on an existing mule for BS-VI.

Facelift model never came with the hallowed 1.6 MJD. So definitely this is a newer one. What is surprising is why would they stick 1.6 monogram if they were testing? Why give hint to public?

Re: Rumour: Maruti-Suzuki to introduce 1.6-Litre diesel engine in 2020

The 1.6 is a pretty good engine and had it been around, would have been a natural choice for my S Cross.

Maruti has been struggling with the 1.5 for quite some time and I think even by their estimate, they figured they'll be too late to the party if they waited for their team to figure the 1.5 out. Fiat must have offered a lucrative deal and just like that, they're back in contention for running for the national engine tag.

I'm still not convinced, guys, for reasons already mentioned earlier (their excellent 1.5L diesel, the 1.6L taking the car into a higher tax bracket, paying Fiat royalties).

I think Maruti is playing some games with the public here, intentionally mis-badging the car just to mislead us. Remember when VW badged its test mules as Fords? A mere "1.6" badge means NOTHING:

Re: Rumour: Maruti-Suzuki to introduce 1.6-Litre diesel engine in 2020

Clever MS employee just wanted to see the brainstorming feedback from forums like ours to know the potentials of their own 1.5 or Fiat's 1.6. Maybe they're also in a stalemate position on what to chose after weighing up pros and cons of both engines from April 2020.
