What a sad thing for such a brilliant car!

The A4 has been one of my favorite cars, and I owned one back in 2001 in the US. And even back then, it had much more powerful engine options - the smallest one being 1.8TSi with 178bhp. So sad that almost two decades later, the engine on offer is smaller and less powerful. I understand that we can't compare engine options in India and US, but when the same 1.8TSi is their mainstream engine in India on many VAG cars, it is absolutely unimaginable that it is not offered on the A4.

A nice powerful engine and Quattro (sadly not on offer in India on A4) would make this an awesome machine to own!

For me, the Quattro is the heart and soul of Audi. You have to drive the A4 Quattro on a snowy or wet road to experience how amazing it is. Sad that the soul is missing from the A4 in India.

Otherwise this is a brilliant car!

Re: Audi A4 facelift launched at Rs. 41.49 lakh

Facelift or no facelift, if its getting only a puny 1.4l with 150 odd horses then no one is going to buy it anyway.
I won't buy this even if they had massive discounts on it.

I understand that post the dieselgate fiasco VAG has decided to stay away from diesels but the least they can do is to get some good petrol engines. This engine is a shame.

I wonder how the dealers react to such hare-brained moves by the management. Times are tough as it is for the auto sector.

What's stopping them from putting the 1.8TSI from the Octavia in the A4? The engine offered is puny and the car is under powered.

That engine is no longer in production. They should have offered a 2 litre.

"All Show and no Go" sums the new Audi A4! Buy the Skoda Octy with the same engine and save ₹20-25 L in the bargain. Audi is deep in the woods with this attitude and over confidence! No diesel! Wow!

One buys an Audi for the interiors.. just plain interiors. If BMW is a 3 Star hotel inside and Merc is 4 (personally I hate Mercs overuse of silver accents) then Audi is a clear 5 Star, top notch finishing, fit and finish and plastics.. no old Audi I've ever driven has those rattles when panels and dashboards are pushed.. many BMWs creak and groan everywhere.

Audi is a clear league above Skoda/VW as well.. atleast its seats are soft and comfy, Skoda manufactures seats out of pure stone (park bench) for that alone I'd pay the 20L extra for Audi if I had the resources. This coming from someone who placed Audi last before driving one. Also I think a turbo 1.4 with 150 bhp is more than adequate, that 2.0 litre diesel Q3 engine paired to a 7 DSG was a slug as well until crossing 70/80.

Re: Audi A4 facelift launched at Rs. 41.49 lakh

I had an Audi A4 Estate in the mid 2005’s as my company car. A gorgeous metallic dark blue one. One of the nicest company cars I have ever had. I always thought the A4 was the best looking of all of them. Best proportions. As noted, very nice, classy interior.

Re: Audi A4 facelift launched at Rs. 41.49 lakh

They should make the Dumb & Dumber movie sequel 3 on Audi India . No diesel, the smallest petrol engine in its class, the slowest transmission, FWD (no AWD or RWD), a facelift that was released years ago internationally, an on-road price of 45 lakhs and a competent sibling (Octavia) that is cheaper & faster. Forget the Octavia, I could buy a vastly superior Superb or Kodiaq and save money over this lame A4.

This, after the equally lame Audi A6 launch (link to thread). Audi India is running in circles like a headless chicken. Is it any wonder why their sales are in the doldrums related analysis (Whatever happened to Audi India? Why is the brand struggling since 2016?)?

After the A6 and A4, the next stop for Audi India is the all new Q3, will they continue with the 1.4 TSI for the Q3 and not have a diesel?

Audi is seriously taking knives to a gun battle.

@GTO, 42 ex showroom translates to around 52 lakhs OTR Bangalore, for the start trim of the A4. Yes but not to forget,Audi starts discounting at the showroom entrance.:

Yep, last I remember 10 lakhs was offered without even starting negotiations, right out the gate a 20% off, and that was 2 years ago. If I'd committed maybe a couple more with ease. Today they'd knock off much more with the slowdown.

Audi is easily approchable, much more so than the egoistic mass market car sellers who'd look at us like we lost our mind when we ask for a best rate. The 1.4 was pulling quite strongly on the A3, shouldn't be all that bad on the A4, maybe it'll feel dead during some overtakings or during low revs (a permanent problem of all idiot autoboxes) but it should get the job done.

Re: Audi A4 facelift launched at Rs. 41.49 lakh

I don't know from what angle this looks like a facelift. I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise seeing as it's Audi. If they put a new design in 1 car then pretty much every new car gets the same look. While BMW and Benz have adopted a similar approach, at least the difference between models is evident.

I think Benz and Beemer will be happy about what Audi is doing. Can probably imagine a conversation between the 3.

Audi: "Our research shows that people prefer petrol engines so we're going with that."
Benz: "Really? Our sales show a majority of our customers picking up diesels. I mean I have to release 2 Diesel engines because the demand is that much."
BMW: "Same here man! Although some people do pick up my petrols too since they're amazing!"
Audi: "Err...VW help please!"

1.4L petrol ? Audi must be called poor man's VW from now on Would have been acceptable if it had twin turbos or decent Hybrid tech, this is just silly.

Hope they don't launch 1.0L NA petrol A3.

I tend to agree - From the specs on the Audi homepage, on the the A3, this engine lugs 1415 KG, and accelerates to 100 in 8.2 seconds. On the A4, it lugs 1450 KG, and gets to 100 in 8.5 seconds. So the difference is marginal.

On the other hand, the 2.0 TFSI in the A6 is a stonker, with the 45TFSi S-Tronic lugging 1780 KGs in just 6.8 seconds to 100. I agree they could have provided this engine in the A4 with a toned down spec (so that it does not cannibalize the A6) - the 2.0 TFSI has 180 PS and 211 PS tunes as well, both of which are available in other markets.
