Re: Kia is the 5th largest car brand in India, based on October 2019 sales

Its very nice to see a new brand demand its rightful market share.

I feel the following helped the initial sales:

1) Something new in the market. No other significant new launches in this segment. People are bored with the archaic boxed shaped Creta, Brezza etc.
2) It looks premium, and it’s BIG. It just fits in the budget.
3) Since Seltos decides the future of KIA brand in India, there is an aggressive sales pitch. Just go to their showroom a genie will grant you anything you ask for.
4) Ready availability/short waiting period for the delivery.

I wish KIA the very best. Brands like KIA, VW, Ford and Skoda must get their fair share in the Indian market.

Who didn't see this coming! A commendable job with a single car, this should boost their confidence as they expand their horizon. A perfect wake up call for other manufacturers, a lot to learn. Kia proved it's worth despite the dreadful market scenario

IMHO, this is just the beginning! They have some great cars in their lineup like Carnival, which will definitely affect the monopoly of Innova Crysta once launched here.

Recently for an airport transfer booked Uber XL and to our surprise got Kia Carnival. Very spacious, feature rich car for sure!

Seltos does look better in the topend trims, but base variants look very vanilla, which is not a bad thing for someone like me, but doesn't have the bling factor of the topend or presence of the Creta.

Re: Kia is the 5th largest car brand in India, based on October 2019 sales

What is interesting to note is that the new Indian car buyer is willing to experiment with completely new/unknown brands. They dont really seem to care about after sales that much before buying. New Product experience is the most important factor in purchase. The brand with the most features wins! Not a bad thing though

With presence only in Tier-1 cities KIA Seltos has made its presence felt and how, No-7 top sold vehicle in the month of Oct'19. A head turner and real rival to segment king Creta.

Honda missed a fantastic opportunity by not bringing the HRV/Vezel. Honda would have succeeded if they had half the determination of what KIA had to bring Seltos in.

Re: Kia is the 5th largest car brand in India, based on October 2019 sales

Hyundai and Kia really understand the pulse of Indian consumers more than the likes of established brands like Honda, Nissan, Renault, VW, Skoda. Other than engine, performance, ride and handling, people are also equally looking forward for features offered that equates to value for money.

Jeep Compass is a classic example wherein though you have an excellent product in terms of ride, handling it falls flat on the features offered for the money you pay. Lastly I am glad that Kia has now set a benchmark in terms of features some of which aren't available in a segment or two above. People will think twice or thrice before buying an SUV ruling our Seltos or Creta, for that matter Hector as well.

I don't think we can say that for long, because they are about to launch Carnival (with Grand in it). Seltos will be supporting their dud

Contrary to your opinion, i personally think that Carnival will be a good success as well. If priced at 25-30 L OTR for top end variants, it will create a strong case for itself to be a better alternative for the top end Innova Crysta variants for private car buyers.
I am saying this because there is currently no feature rich upmarket 7 seater (Innova Crysta is not at all premium/luxurious in any way) in that price range and hence Carnival can even pull some customers from 7 seat SUVs in the higher price bracket also.

Re: Kia is the 5th largest car brand in India, based on October 2019 sales

Kia and MG definitely have done excellent market research. I personally feel that Kia Seltos is a tad expensive for the variants worth purchasing, but so was the case with Creta. Like Hyundai, most of their cars will run trouble-free. It'll be interesting to learn which variants of the Seltos have actually sold the most. Irrespective, Kia deserves accolades for the numbers.

The Kia Seltos is India's best-selling SUV

Kia claims that it has delivered more than 40,000 units of the Seltos, since its launch in August 2019. It has received 86,840 bookings till date.

In August 2019, Kia sold 6,236 units of the Seltos, which rose to 7,754 units in September. In October, Kia sold 12,854 units of the car.

The diesel automatic and the petrol DCT variants are said to be the most popular trims. Kia is ramping up production of these variants to keep up with the demand.

Re: The Kia Seltos is India's best-selling SUV

Wow. This is an entry every manufacturer would dream to have. For a car that is launched in 10 lakhs plus bracket, it is doing amazing numbers. Even if they clear the whole backlog, visibility it has created will allow it sustain good numbers.
