I dont think the mondeo would sell well if they price it above 20L either in the petrol version or the diesel. If ford wants to find success they need to price it around 15L bang in the Laura territory.

Mondeo needs a change of name to do well here. The Mondeo didnt go that well here. People hearing about the mondeo would rather stay away from it having heard its bad history.
A diffrent name and a low price would be the thing to do for the mondeo.

Mondeo priced right on top of a Laura would indeed be an attractive proposition....although I realise its one size bigger than a Laura.

The type1 had petrol and diesel options and also Xenons. The type2 with redesign bumper was relaunched and offered only petrol without goodies like HID. Mondeo was the first CBU to be offered in India. (in recent times)

Perhaps because, to an enthusiast, ~100 bhp isn't exactly the stuff of dreams?!

No car that is sporty, sleek or driver friendly will find a market among the car buying Indian public. Period.

Isnt Swift somewhat of an exception (comparing it with others in the same segment)?

It was looking like 'Bigger ikon' when it was launched, particularly it's front look which was really confusing, and it was a mistake. I beleive its one good reason why it failed previously.
If they relaunch it shoud have a very fresh look, no look like an elder brother of iKon or fiesta!

The Mondeo is a great driver's car. It has all the right things. Why did it fail? One reason was the abysmal Ford service, people had to wait three weeks for parts to come to the garage. High costs of spares is not really an issue, as many Skoda owners will testify.
Second reason is that the Mondeo somehow did not have the cachet of an expensive brand, in Europe it sells as a bigger Ford, a run-of-the mill family vehicle. Here if it was priced at 10 lakh or less, it would perhaps have taken off.
Unfortunately if it's re-introduced it already has the reputation of a dead horse, and quite unlikely to succeed.

Ford Mondeo was a delight to drive with excellent power and handling. But its suffered due to its non availability of spares and looks. Sadly it looked like a overgrown Ikon.
