I am not much into cars, not that I dont' like them. Just that I can't afford one yet.

My respect is for a person more closer to home.

We have geniuses right here in India who are capable of redefining the way engines are built.

The lack of support which in most cases is a "All the best" note from many manufacturers is why people like him and their inventions are lost to time.

This persons name is Somender Singh.

You can check his combustion chamber design which stems from the old saying, "The more the turbulance in the combustion chamber, the better the engine performance and efficiency"

His engines do exactly that, grooves in the combustion chamber generate turbulence in the combustion chamber leading to a more complete burn.

If you guys do wanna read about this person, You can check his website.

http://www.somender-singh.com/

His interview for popular science.

http://www.popsci.com/popsci/futurec...cbccdrcrd.html

His work is even featured in this article for the american energy independence website.

http://www.americanenergyindependenc...fficiency.html

"If all of the existing cars on American highways were designed with Mr. Singh's invention, the yearly national fuel savings could equal the amount of oil America imports from the Persian gulf."

No offence to all the other greats mentioned in this thread. I know and will always remember those names as entrepreneurs of the automotive world.

I just wanted to shead some light on this person who I hold in high regard. [/SIZE]

Peace

Indian: Ratan Tata - Has done India proud and put it on the international automobile map - world's 6th biggest commercial automobile manufacturer (hopefully steel map also, if Tata Steel acquires Corus). He had to go through all the hardships in the path of a developing country. He initiated diversification from trucks and buses to MUVs/SUVs and cars and there is no limit to the vision of this great man.

Intl: Rudolf Diesel and to an extent Carl Bosch - Together they have initiated the technology of fuel-efficient engines and fuel injection related-systems.

Gordon Murray, Ratan Tata, Jean Todt, Schumi, Rossi, Doohan, Senna.

no point in explaining why

And of course the founders of companies like Karl Benz, Enzo, Ettore Bugatti, Ferrucio, Ferdinand Porsche, etc.....

BTW, one important name is missing from all the posts here....

Ferdinand Piech !! The guy who was responsible for the fastest car ever.....
