The small car bandwagon is getting bigger. The latest entrant is the Czech arm of German company Volkswagen AG 9 (VW), Skoda Auto. Skoda plans to launch a new, low-cost small car specifically catering to the South East Asian markets of India and China, and Russia. The vehicle would sell for between €7,000-8,000 (Rs 4,06,000- Rs 4,64,000), according to Skoda chief executive officer Detlef Wittig. This announcement comes at a time when Skoda is planning to unveil its hatchback Fabia in the Indian market. The idea seems to be aimed at creating a distinction between Fabia, which shares the same platform as other VW cars such as Polo and Golf and is expected to be priced at the premium end of the hatchback market, and a completely new platform under development by VW.

I am not too comfortable after reading this news. It might mean that Skoda might NOT launch the Fabia...
but this shouldn't hamper fabia launch .. its ( fabia) gonna be launched before diwali.
They will probably take the VW Fox platform for this "new" small car.
And when will the FABIA launch in india......now that's the million dollar question
Oh come-on, bring on the Yeti-2 in India. I luv that car..
i think it gonna be launched in 2nd quarter 2008. u know how things get delayed when it comes to a nice car being launched on our indian roads.
BUT, What about the Skoda A.S.S when compared to MUL/Hyundai ?
Sounds like another heresay from a granny's tale.

Yes. Saw the Hindu article. From the sides and the rear it is ditto the Swift. So, who copied whom ?
i wish skoda fabia launches soon by mid of current year.
Reason: Canned the plan to buy Getz or Swift and started saving money to go for the Skoda Fabia 1.4 or 1.6L
Skoda might not be considered a very prestigious brand in the European market but they have done incredibly well in the Indian market.
Skoda has their models including Octavia, Laura and Superb available in India and they are now working on launching their smaller car Fabia by the end of the year.
Skoda India Managing Director Karsten Bogun said in a statement that they would launch the car in the Indian market after some technological changes in it to cope with the conditions.
The company is confident that the Skoda Fabia would do well in the Indian market as it has performed well in several international markets.
Bogun added: “It will have veritable advantage over its competitors in terms of its world class , quality and space offering.”
Skoda Fabia in India by the end of the year
its easy to beat swift when it comes to space ( rear seat):p
the crucial thing is price!
