Honda Insight spotted testing in India

The Honda Insight hybrid sedan has been spotted testing in India. The car in the spy images is the third-generation model and has emissions testing apparatus installed at the rear.

In global markets, the Insight is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor that have a combined output of 149 BHP. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

In terms of styling, the Insight has a coupe-like roofline and wraparound tail lights. It has a dual-tone rear bumper with integrated reflectors. At the front, it gets wraparound LED headlights with LED daytime running lights and a large grille with a chrome bar.

Re: Honda Insight spotted testing in India

Looks like Honda is trying to take on the Camry with this one. So expect it to be priced around 40 lakhs ex showroom. I mean the Camry hardly sells 50 odd units each month. Then what is the point of launching the Insight here? Honda already has burned its fingers badly with the Accord Hybrid.

Honda really seems to have lost it's way here in India. Instead of launching mass market cars in hot segments like the compact and sub compact SUV they are wasting their resources with the Insight IMO. Of course this is assuming that Honda is not testing some powertrain with this mule.

This is in stark contrast to the City testmule which is covered in every possible way. Makes me believe they are just evaluating the powertrain.

The 1.5 hybrid is speculated to come with the City as well, and the city is just under road testing too.

That is because the City is not launched anywhere in the world as of now so they are running the camouflaged test mules on Indian roads to hide the design. Whereas the Insight is on sale elsewhere in the world so no need to heavily camouflage it.

But yes you may be right regarding the powertrain testing as Honda has not bothered to cover even the H badge on the nose and the boot.

Re: Honda Insight spotted testing in India

Agreed. This will be power-train testing only & that's a good thing. Honda - once a technological innovator - has been a mere follower in India. We haven't seen anything "new" from them. If they can bring hybrids to the City segment, it'll really be something. I've said it before and will say it again = hybrids are the "today", electric cars are a distant "tomorrow" in India.
