Based on that interview, it seems pretty clear that the Octavia is only going to come with the 2.0 TSI. I was hoping for the 1.5 TSI, am worried about the pricing on the 2.0

With Civic gone, there’s a huge whitespace in the 20-30L range. I doubt they’ll price to closer to the Superb Sportline or may be they would. Wonder if anyone has any iota of pricing guidance yet!

It actually might make sense for Skoda to launch Octavia in two trims initially i.e., sportsline and L&K with 2.0l engine with dsg (just like Superb). This way people can compare pricing more fairly and map variant to variant for Octy vs Superb. Makes buying decision easy. Later, they can introduce a "light on the wallet" Octy rider manual variant with a 1.5L tsi engine so that everyone's happy.

These look different from the test mule pics from a few months back, the rims look different and also has the masking cover, tattered as it is. Hopefully that means the wait is getting shorter. Still holding out for an early Q2 launch before the Vision IN SUV, which will keep them very busy.

Chinese customers have bought 1.4 million of the more than 6.8 million contemporary OCTAVIA cars sold. That is one reason why Chinese customers will now have the chance to buy the new OCTAVIA PRO, which is tailor-made for them. Random thoughts:

Why 1.4TSi? Thought it was globally replaced by the EA211 Evo 1.5TSi. (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.evo...ech-behind-tsi)

Like the way they have seamlessly integrated the extra length (like the BMW 3GL).

The exterior colour is awful with too much chrome.

The vRS bumpers look out of place. Scroll to the first posts in this thread (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post4691269 (The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021)), and see how elegant the EU version looks.

Interiors look uber premium and will make even the facelifted Superb feel really old fashioned. Black looks sporty and still bright due to the huge sunroof, but India will probably get a sea of beige.

Rear doors seem to be unusually tall and will restrict the view outside big time. This tall door line is now ubiquitous in most cars.

If Skoda can price it from ~22 - 28, I feel they have a huge winner on their hands. There is just no competition left in D1/2 sedans, unless Kia suddenly brings in a CKD Optima K5 (unlikely).
