I too like the look of it. I think the headlights look like they're inspired by the 7 Series. The looks are quite clean. The interior also seems modern. I particularly like that steering wheel.

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

Just noticed that the 2.0 TDI with 340NM gets a 7 speed DSG in place of the 6 speed DSG. This must be the high torque capable transmission and not the usual DQ200 which couldn't handle more than 250 NM or torque.

The high torque motors now all get 7 speed as well with the DQ380 gearbox. This is a 2WD version of the Tiguan/kodiaq box and can handle 380Nm torque.

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

If the front is considered as the face of the car, the expression given is highly negative/unpleasant/sad one.

Profile and rear now reminds me of many other cars in the market.
Profile- Corolla, Volvo s60?
rear- Volvo s60, City/Ciaz?

Overall, I am disappointed, or, in better words, I am too old to like the new gen design.

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

Am I the only one who finds the interiors more Hyundai-esque ? The Skoda character seems to be retained in the front and side profile. The rear is a dampener though. The design may not age as gracefully as the current genetation Octavia.

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

Just some random thoughts:
  • Not too sure about the look. Especially not a fan of the front grill.
  • The profile (especially in that color) reminds me of Audi, especially the tail
  • Like the interiors, especially the virtual cockpit, the ambient lighting and the under thigh support in the seats
  • Love the HUD
  • Not so sure about the 19" wheels, seem a tad too big for the car

Overall, there is more to like on the inside than on the outside, which is a bit disappointing. Would have loved a more striking look.

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

Looks like a fantastic car, will drive gorgeously as well. But on first look I thought the car seems to have borrowed the Maruti Dzire (from certain angles) grill.

what do the current designers have against the grills, first the BMW and now the Octovia.

New Gen Skoda Octavia Vs. Octavia III,

Quote:
In a nutshell, the 2020 Octavia simply looks more intricate from every angle, and every single one of its lines is more pronounced.

The Combi is looking better in my opinion, the car overall is more rounded now compared to the edginess which was always the Octavia signature style. The current Octavia looks better to me. It has always been my dream to own the RS

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

Looks great, headlights might look a bit awkward in photos but I am sure it will be a looker in flesh.

The car is a combination of the latest 3 series (that grill and front stance), Audi TT (headlights and front silhouette/sharp lines on bonnet), and Mercedes S class (2 spoke steering).

Of-course, can't expect to match any of the above but certainly a worthy car to pick for those of us who can't just yet buy, and more importantly maintain, a proper luxury car (read BMW, Audi, Merc, etcetera). Looking forward to the launch, price, and engine options — hope that the 2.0 TSI and TDI 4WD come to India at a reasonable price (Maybe ~27-30 Lakh OTR).

Would be drool-worthy if that happens, anything below A6 would only be one hand away in terms of performance.

Front design reminds me of certain (old)American car, Lincoln? Mercury? Can't pinpoint. It seem to have lost that sharp, chiseled, minimalistic design.

2020 Skoda Octavia vRS to Blend Performance and Practicality,

Quote:
get its motivation from a 2-liter TSI turbo four-pot that’s shared with the VW Golf GTI and it will be pitched as its more comfortable and practical alternative
Quote:
Skoda will most likely retain the 2-liter TDI version of the Octavia RS, even though Volkswagen could ditch the Golf GTD for the eighth generation

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

Doesn't the badging at the rear make it look like a Volvo S60? Also i am not a huge fan of curves, i rather prefer a more squared design. This one looks too curvy or rounded especially the way the bonnet is protruding out just above the SKODA badge. The good thing though is that they got rid of those horrible headlight arrangements and made them blend perfectly with the rest of the front.

re: The 4th-gen Skoda Octavia. EDIT: India launch pushed to 2021

If there was anything unique to the VW group, it was consistency in design language. That has been shot to pieces. The front grille has changed from traditional butterfly to a vague butterfly-meets-audi concoction. The less said about the rear, the better. Complete deviation from the traditional skoda rear. That said, it's not ugly. But definitely lost the sharpness & understatedness. This version has gone to the make up studio a tad too much.

Two huge letdowns :
1. The 1.8TSI is gone, the 2.0TSI VRS AWD most probably wont reach india
2. Those 19" wheels - too big. Looks like some smart middle manager in a drug cartel bought this car, so that he wouldn't draw attention like a flashy SUV does, yet couldn't resist the peer pressure from his cartel/gangster friends and went and fitted wheels 2 sizes up. Ghastly.

Looks like I am the only one here who loves the looks, that slight curve on the hood, is just wow!

Have always loved the "not so futuristic" interiors. I would be seriously considering buying this one!
