Going by what I was told earlier this year by the Skoda dealers in Mumbai for the rates of the upcoming Octavia, they might price 1.5L Skoda close to Superb .

At that time the on-road price of Octavia 1.8L L&K Petrol was 29L+, and they were trying to push the sale saying that the new one will be around 32L+ even with the smaller engine. This was mostly a tactic to push the sale, but considering the pricing some of the companies have come out with recently, I wouldn't be surprised with the new rate being very close to Superb.

I am awaiting their price announcement before I make a decision on what car to buy.

Multiple reliable auto-journalist sources have confirmed, and history is proof, Octavia has been and will always launch with the exact same petrol engine-gearbox combination as Superb. So this time, definitely the Octavia will launch with a 2.0 TSI 190hp/320nm 7-speed DSG (DQ381). At launch there could be just a single L&K Variant, or something like a First Edition thats launched in other markets. The wheels seen on Indian test mules look like those of the First Edition.

The 1.5 TSI with 7-speed DSG (DQ200) and 6MT will launch later with the lower variants.

Didn't initially like the design of the new octavia but its starting to grow on me. That car really needs a wash, I can't imagine touching the car to open the door or worse touch the boot lid!

The finger marks on the edge of the boot show that the car has a manual hatch closing. Seems the case this generation of the Octy will also miss the electrically opening/closing boot.

The design is surely growing on me. But yes Skoda will definitely see some headwinds due to the Indian's people ever-raging love affair with SUV's at every price segment. Sedan lovers are dwindling internationally and the tepid responses to the new Civic and Elantra corroborate that.

They need to price this well to make it the success that Skoda VW need this to be in India. This is their legacy product and their showstopper if you may. So bad monthly numbers on this flagship will reduce confidence in India 2.0

I hope they introduce multiple engine options at launch to serve the different user segments. I am beginning to notice that Skoda is considering India as make or break and that seems to be reflecting in small things that they're doing.

That intent needs to convert into pure numbers on monthly sales charts now. And the only way of doing that in India has always been to demonstrate "value". Right product at the right price, and most other things seem to take care of themselves.

The 1.4 tsi manual of the prev gen was priced around 16 ex showroom if I remember correctly. If its in the same ballpark ++ for the 1.5 tsi , there should be more than a few takers, suv onslaught notwithstanding. I still feel that the sedan is not really dead, its just lack of modern aspirational ftd products in the key 10- 20 lakh range - which is where the creta's and seltos'es play today

I agree with that. In the market to replace my 2013 Jetta and there’s not a car that’s impressed me in the 20L +/- range as someone with a strong preference for Sedans over SUVs. I really hope they launch the Octavia in that bracket with a 1.5 engine and don’t restrict it to a 2.0 engine closer to the Superb price range.

Hi All - Any thoughts on a comparitive b/w New Octavia vs Superb? I am told by the Skoda dealership that the new Octavia will launch in Q2 and will come with the 2.0L TSI in 2 variants - LnK and a Sportline. The other variants will be the 1.5L 150PS.

Main points of contention are:
1. Newew MQB platform for Octavia
2. Lots of Driver Safety aids - atleast in the Euro spec LnK
3. Performance on the 2.0 TSI - given Octavia would be lighter compared to Superb
4. Mileage

Although it looks unmistakably Skoda, it somewhat reminds me of a BMW. The design of the new Octavia is elegant but not extraordinary.

Like it has been previously pointed out, the interiors are pretty boring.

However, on a lighter note; it will find more takers who would not have to grieve on having spent 4+ million INR yet their car being recognised as it’s much cheaper sibling (read: Skoda Rapid).

From another perpective, if the Octavia is going to cost 4+ million INR, it makes more sense to go for the much premium badged BMW, Merc and Audi. Takers would grieve after paying so much and yet getting a much less premium Octavia badge.

Octavia 2021 should be priced around 25-28 lacs ex-showroom range for Sport and L&K version respectively. Should come with 2L TSI Engine. Anything more, whole range of Skoda will just crash like airline stocks. Interesting 2021 ahead.
