Volvo XC40 T4 petrol to be priced at Rs 39.9 lakh.

Expected to launch in the coming days, the XC40 petrol for India will come with a 190hp, 2.0-litre engine and in one mid-spec R-Design variant.

According to a media report, Volvo is likely to launch the T4 Petrol variant of the XC40 later this month. It is rumoured to be priced at Rs. 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom).



The XC40 T4 R-Design is expected to get features such as adaptive cruise control, paddle shifters, automatic parking, heated seats, wireless charging and hands-free tail gate opening function.

The report states that the T4 variant will be offered with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine producing 187 BHP and 300 Nm of torque. The engine is expected to be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It has been reported that the XC40 T4 will not get all-wheel drive.

I think the Passat is discontinued now.

Unlike the diesel, our sources say that AWD will not be offered on the petrol XC40. This means that the model will be a front-wheel-drive vehicle only. Interestingly, the petrol engine will be a BS4 unit at launch, with an upgrade to BS6 coming closer to the mandated April 2020 deadline

Dumb move. Volvo claim that their engines are all BS6 “almost ready” and all that’s needed is a software upgrade. I don’t get why they wouldn’t already dispatch them out from the plant as BS6

Exactly. Why release a BS4 model at the cusp of change?

Why not simply offer the customer a future ready car (which already is EU6 since it's a CBU) in Dec, barely 3 months before deadline?

Maybe VOLVO doesn't have time to do emissions testing and wanted to launch ASAP?

For tuners out there - this 2 liter 190ps engine does 240 odd with just a simple remap. It is exactly the same engine that's used in the S60 T6. Just put a larger turbo and you get 300+.

Volvo Cars has launched the XC40 T4 R-Design petrol variant in India at a price of Rs 39.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

Based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), the luxury SUV comes with radar-based active safety features, wireless charging for smartphones, a 14-speaker 600W premium sound system by Harman Kardon etc.

Other features include a panoramic sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay enabled 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, distance alert, power tailgate.

Is it the same price as diesel?

I just met a Volvo dealer to find out if they are running any discounts and he kept repeating saying these petrol engines are BS6.

As for the discounts, they are running a 5L off on road for the XC40 diesel variants on the existing stock that they have.
