Great pricing IMO.

Sharp 7 seater variant seems the best priced one, and will find many takers.

As mentioned, these are "introductory prices". I wonder by how much will MG raise the prices after 31 Oct/ 2000 bookings. I am hoping for a starting price of under 30L for the base variant after the increase.

Priced similar to Endeavour/Fortuner at 38-40Lac for single Turbo and 42-45Lac for Twin Turbo on road here in Bangalore. Sales advisor will have to stress a lot on size and features.

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

I would say a big missed opportunity, they could have easily undercut Fortuner and Endeavour by a big margin .. Now sales persons will have to struggle hard to sell.

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

I think MG should tone down the bling quotient on their cars. For a large luxury SUV costing a minimum of 30 big ones, calling variants as Smart, Sharp, Savvy feels downright unsophisticated and tacky.

Sounds a bit like "Akkha Mumbai Mein World Famous:" . And what are you trying to say ? That the base variant is Smart but not Savvy ? Its bad marketing all the way. Better call them as G1/G2/G3 for all I care, but no Attributes please !

PS :They are not the only ones doing it, but others atleast try to use vague descriptions like HighLine, Comfortline, or SEL/Highlander etc.

The pricing is competitive for sure but I doubt it would be able to dethrone the Fortuner although it may significantly dent the sales of the Endeavour. The Fortuner has continued to be the undisputed player while several newcomers came and went.

MG Gloster launched at Rs. 28.98 lakh

Having launched the Hector, Hector Plus and the ZS EV in India, MG Motor has now introduced the Gloster. The SUV is available in four variants - Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy, with prices starting at Rs. 28.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh-mgglosteramp.jpg

The MG Gloster is a re-badged version of the Maxus D90 that is sold in the Chinese market. It measures 4,985 mm in length, 1,926 mm in width and 1,867 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm and the fuel tank capacity is 75 litres. The SUV comes with LED headlamps and tail lights as well as cornering lamps and rides on 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The advanced safety features offered in the Gloster include:

  • Radar guided cruise control
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Automatic park assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Forward collision warning
  • Fatigue reminder system

The SUV also comes with 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, ESP, Traction control, Automatic Vehicle Hold (AVH), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Hill Descent Control and Roll Movement Intervention (RMI).

The Gloster comes with a dual-tone interior with brown leather upholstery and 64 colour ambient lighting. It gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen head-unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and an 8-inch instrument cluster. The car gets a 3-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, 12-way adjustable driver seat with memory, ventilation, heating and massage functions, 8-way power adjustable front passenger seat with heating function, hands-free tailgate, rain sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof and 71 iSmart connected car features.

The MG Gloster is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which comes in two states of tune. In the Super and Smart variants, the engine comes with a single turbocharger and makes 161 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 375 Nm @ 1,500-2,400 rpm. These variants don't get 4-wheel drive. The Sharp and Savvy variants get the 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel unit that is rated at 215 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 480 Nm @ 1,500-2,400 rpm. This engine is mated to a shift-on-fly 4WD system and has an electro-mechanical differential lock. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is offered as standard across all variants. The SUV rides on 255/55-section tyres and gets independent suspension at the front and a 5-link suspension at the rear.

The MG Gloster competes with the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Alturas G4 in the Indian market.

MG Gloster variant-wise prices:

Super (7-Seater) - Rs. 28,98,000

Smart (7-Seater) - Rs. 30,98,000

Sharp (7-Seater) - Rs. 33,68,000

Sharp (6-Seater) - Rs. 33,98,000

Savvy (6-Seater) - Rs. 35,38,000

Oh, I could not agree more! Seeing the bad taste consumers have, it is all about the bling. Put something very competent to drive on the road and give it understated looks, it will not sell. Install few tons of chrome, mobile app, screens and ugly accessories, you will see it everywhere. The variant names are downright gaudy. Well, at least the engine and interiors are competent enough.

Music to my ears. Time for a pre-worshipped Endeavour

Good but not aggressive pricing and packaging from MG , base variants could have been priced 2-3 lakhs lower.

I'm finding incredible value in Ford Endeavour right now !

Interesting thing is that Gloster weighs about 2518 KG and with 163ps 375NM spec for the base variants may come with ordinary performance !
Where as Endeavour weighs about 2285-2415KG with a standard 170ps 420NM engine and the Fortuner weighs about 2180 KG with 168ps 343 NM engine .

MG might withdraw the service package included in the introductory pricing after OCTOBER 31.

A lot of Fortuner owners are hoteliers and other kinds of big businessesmen who prefer too much chrome and bling. MG knows their market well. I wouldn't be surprised if Ford struggles from now.

With these prices the MG will not have a winner, at these prices people look for brand value more than anything and in this regard MG still has a long way to go. Endeavour and Fortuner are way better, with the updated Fortuner incoming with more power and highest torque the stranglehold by the Fortuner will just increase!

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

I just went and sat in the gloster variant here at OMR showroom in Chennai. I was very disappointed with the seating comfort in both the front and the back seats. No underthigh support for a 6’1” guy like me, even with all the adjustments. The sonet and the new creta have better front seat support than this.

Re: MG Gloster launched at Rs. 28.98 lakh

MG GLOSTER INITIAL SHOWROOM IMPRESSIONS
Checked out the MG Gloster in the showroom for a closer look. Some of my first level observations :-

The SUV is huge. A clear one size up above the Fortuner and Endeavour footprints.

The design is closer to the Rexton Alturas school than the Endeavour side of the spectrum. Designed to look more plush and savvy instead of macho.

I expected some upgrade from Innova bracket.I understand from the sales advisor, that the interest customers were more from Innova owners than D2 SUV owners/aspirants. Too early too few sample group to draw conclusions based on this.

The showroom and merchandise display scream British in line with extra Brit dynamic branding on the car itself.

Interestingly Sharp, not Savvy is on display contrary to popular tradition of showroom cars being the apex variant. Understandable as Savvy gets ADAS like features not demonstrable in showroom

Interior is plush and definitely top in segment. Plastic quality and leather stitching look top notch . Buttons feel solid amd clunky.

The gear lever and console and the entire layout looks from a segment above. I hear folks say it's X7 copy, duh, are we complaining?

The headrests and the seats themselves are well cushioned and detailed to convey appearance of a much more expensive vehicle.

For my 6.0ft frame I found the thigh support not adequate in second row.

Small cabin lights also are detailed in crystal cut to have some level of intricacy.
Sound quality from head unit is below segment average. It's lesser than Endeavour and definitely can't touch the Kodiaq's Canton

Best third row in segment . Period. Actually usable third row for adults. Lesser thigh support but as third rows go, this is the best I've seen. Probably why Innova owners would upgrade to this?

Rear luggage room is ample despite third row up., Folding it down gives a massive boot.

Rear loading lip is too high to raise heavy items and load up.

Doors are not as heavy as I would've expected them to be.

Good clearance in wheel well despite the 19inchers

Brushed aluminium grille slats in Sharp, not chrome.

Gloster tail gate branding looks hideous and internet inside should be taken off prior leaving showroom itself.

If you dig deeper , you would find cost cutting here and there. Some bolts exposed in doors could've been rubber capped.

Key fob looks and feels cheap for the price and doesn't look like it belongs to this car.

Test drives start next week only, so will update after that.

I will comment on the pricing separately in comparison to competition.
