Indeed it's bound to be priced at that level. The fortuner model which it competes with in Australia is priced at 6 L cheaper (Pre taxes). Considering the current top end Fortuner is priced at around 42~ lakh, this should come around atleast 35 L.

The million $ Question is:- Who would want to plonk approx INR 3 to 3.5 million on a Chinese car and ditch the ever trusted Toyota Fortuner?

Let the govt ban this Chinese auto maker (like the apps). Till they don't, I would base my purchase decision on its merit, and not its domicile!

The kind of response that Kia and MG have received with Seltos and Hectar, it won't be tough for MG to attract customers. Its loaded with features, way more than what a Fortuner has. If people can accept Seltos/Hectar in place of Creta/Xuv5oo, then why not this, instead of a Fortuner/Endeavour. I am not even counting Alturas here.

Its good on space/features/interiors. Engine specs too, look good.

If priced couple of lakhs lesser than T-Fort/Endy (which I expect from MG), expect it to be a common sight on the roads.

That's Ford's mistake. Too bad that they didn't do a good job at marketing.

I feel the Gloster will be a big hit. People overestimate the loyalty towards Toyota and the Fortuner. Everybody feels that looking beyond the Fortuner is sacrilege because of the "reliability". But they have ruled the segment almost like a monopoly for a decade now. Brand fatigue itself will cause people to explore the Gloster.

Also MG themselves have built up a very strong customer base. To the point that positive word of mouth, enthusiasm and buzz among it's customers for a new model rubs of on others curious to look into the brand.

Before we finalize on any Chinese brand, one must take a look at their quality levels. Below is a review of a pickup truck from the same company SAIC. Take a look at their jugaad fittings of the load bay rubber liner, the laggy 10 inch touchscreen or the visible sagging of the suspension under near rated loads.

Even if the price for the top trim is 40L on road, it may become a good option for the buyers who are looking for something other than the mainstream vehicles in this segment and prefer more modern interiors and features instead of just butch looks.

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

It is confirmed that MG Gloster to get 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel engine developed in-house by SAIC, MG’s parent company, makes 218hp, 480Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. No petrol engine on the cards for India.

Expect MG Gloster prices to be in the range of Rs 40-45 lakh (ex-showroom) when it is launched by Diwali this year.

It has been said and written upteem times that Ford must introduce the bi-turbo Endeavour in India which has max. torque of 500 nm. and 10 speed auto gearbox.
If the new MG SUV does well in terms of sales, then Ford will definitely have to get the bi-turbo in India. Fingers crossed.

What is MG smoking ? 40-45 lakh ex-showroom

That would put the OTR price in the range 52-57 lakhs. That is too close to GLC territory. If that is the pricing we can already conclude that Gloster will be a dud on arrival.

In my view an ex-showroom price of 30-35 lakhs is what Gloster can command, anything above that is waste of effort for everyone...or am I missing something ?

At this price the car is definitely going to be Dead on Arrival. Which means close to 50L on-road in various cities. It has a reasonable chance of success if priced few lakhs below the Fortuner and Endeavour.

At this price, it will go the erstwhile Chevrolet Trailblazer/Isuzu MUX way. MG can't afford a dud so early in its Indian market journey. I predict it will mostly be a 100-150 odd units/month affair, once the initial honeymoon period gets over. MG surely needs to price it realistically.

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

At the risk of sounding prejudiced, why would someone put down 50 big ones for something called "Gloster"?

There are multiple other options in the market which may not offer similar space(assuming this is very spacious), but one can buy eyes closed from a reliability perspective(read Fortuner) or just up the style quotient multiple notches and buy one of the premium German offerings?

Also, I am now convinced that our Indian brands have better designs than Chinese. Time to export some Harrier's to China!
