re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

I won’t lie but I’d be drooling over the specs in this car if Mahindra or Tata were the manufacturers. The pricing is spot on too, in my opinion. But right now, whenever anyone asks me if an MG product is any good, I simply ask them to be wary of the fact that MG may be forced to shut shop due to the heavy anti Chinese sentiment in India right now.

Re: MG Gloster launched at Rs. 28.98 lakh

There are just too many badges on the outside, I see even the dealer has added a few like autonomous L1 and Morris Garages on the left fender and bonnet respectively. Also Innova customers are different, once used to a certain level of service and peace of mind there is no way they will move to MG! Either they move to a Fortuner or a premium brand say Mercedes Benz or BMW. Also the single turbo just won’t be able to pull the car considering it’s heavy weight, the twin turbo is just about enough. Lower variants are more for the lower price penetration than anything.

Re: MG Gloster launched at Rs. 28.98 lakh

It wouldn't. Not because of the anti china sentiment, but mainly due to the risk averse nature of the customers with this sort of budget. Despite being pricier, Fortuner would be the blind choice for many of these customers.

And as they say, only a Toyota alternative to the Fortuner has a scope to dethrone the Fortuner.

Re: MG Gloster launched at Rs. 28.98 lakh

Very competitive pricing. Did not expect this at all. Nice surprise from MG. Top end on road would be around 40 lakhs.

Given the features, bi-turbo engine set up (top 2 models) and all the creature comforts, I initially thought the base model will start from 40 lakhs ex-showroom. It's game over for Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

Now Toyota and Ford will face all the heat. To keep up with the competition, Toyota should introduce a panoramic sunroof and tune for higher engine power, and Ford should introduce their global bi-turbo 2.0 in India.

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

I have a feeling the sales charts will throw a few surprises in this segment. MG knows it's market well. The package of bling, exclusive, sometimes even over the top, features and the sheer size advantage will pull in decent numbers for them, and it'll only get better.

The thing is, if we compare the kit for the same cars launched in India and abroad, we essentially pay the same price for fewer features.

What MG has done, with every offering, is push the bar. Their cars offer features that weren't the norm in the segment, thereby giving the impression that it's serious about this market.

It'll be interesting to see how things shape up for them in this segment.

Now it all boils down to brands ( Toyota, Ford ) Vs the bling what MG is offering.
Interesting time ahead in this segment . It might also answer the above companies that, what are people really looking for. Is it a good brand or just the good features .

The badge on the rear and the Brit dynamics badge look really ugly in my opinion. They scream Chinese and kind of look wannabe.

The car otherwise seems promising but somehow misses out on giving the premium feel that the Fortuner and Endeavour give out, despite having less to offer. This seems like an other Alturas or Isuzu show to as of now.

Got to wait and see how the public reacts, considering all the sentiments right now.

Not blinded by their 1 crore car for 50 lakhs subtle paid marketing, I really hoped they would undercut the segment leaders.

Not for any MG love or blingy, touchscreeny internet love.

Just to give the shivers to Toyota and Ford.
Even if they can't cut the prices, atleast not to further increase the prices, and furthermore give more features for the price being demanded.

Very competitive pricing by MG

I think this will sell given the size, features & the bling. Will eat into Endeavor's market share. Toyota will continue to sell because of the prestige associated with the brand and loyal fan following.

Have a feeling that his will go Alturas way. Brand Fortuner and Endeavour was built decades ago and this past has lot of influence on current success. May be a Hyundai car at competitive price would have clicked but MG,I doubt. Sure Its larger offers more kit, feels plusher but would you plonk 40lacs on MG? Even the Hector to me is just ok, not a runaway success. They consistently sell 2-3K a month and that's not a big number for a car selling at price range of 16-22Lac.

I believe it's priced too close to Fortuner for comfort in Sales. Until months are always good for challengers, but, they lose steam afterwards. Equally capable Isuzu MUX is facing this (small dealer network), Mahindra has failed & Ford has settled for 2nd position in long run.

IMO it could be toil for MG Gloster. Moreover, I would wait for in-house verdict as @GTO had suggested to something different (from paid portals) in his post few days ago.
