re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

When the car goes in at 0:42 the slush covers the entire bonnet and comes up to the windshield. At 0:45 it comes out with factory fresh paint! I think the Thar off road videos were much better! For e.g. at the beginning seeing the vehicle shake and wobble from left to right looks funny. I know it's how the vehicle will drive but there's something off about the way it's filmed.

The video gives a feeling that the driver isn't having confidence inspiring control over the vehicle. At 0.10 secs, 0.33 secs etc, the car was doing some weird movements.

This looks like just the car which can take on the Fortuner and X1, two vehicles which are poles apart, singlehandedly!

Also, the Gloster seems to be very promising on the insides as well and hence, the market will surely be disrupted!
(I know they are copied, but that doesn't take away the fact that it will surely impress customers who want the feel of an even more luxurious car!)

This is going to be quite an interesting and disruptive launch if priced competitively!

It sure looks like competition to everything between 30-40L.

I think Jeep Compass will be the first to take a hit with the launch of this Gloster if they do it right.

Hydrophobic ceramic coat from factory?

With MG and Kia bringing the bling factor along with terrific pricing in most popular segments in the current Indian market, rules are being rewritten on how to enter a new market. Established brands need to wake up and rethink their strategies.

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

At around 1:23 in the add, towards the end, there is a message which says "India's first Autonomous Level 1 Premium SUV".
Just trying to understand what this means actually.
Level 1 Autonomous - may be refers to automatic parallel parking. I guess i have seen many Skoda's, Mercs, LRs, Volvos etc do this already in India.
I even remember seeing something like this on our humble Ford Endeavour. So I am just wondering how is this first Level 1 Autonomous SUV in India. Any thoughts from anyone will be helpful.

Level 1 Autonomous tech means features like Adaptive Cruise Control where the car automatically brakes if the car in front brakes and then returns to the same speed it was earlier once it’s clear. Maybe it uses a camera near the IRVM.
Automatic Parallel parking is separate and like you mentioned is present in various cars across various brands.

Level 1 is limited to
- Parking assist
- radar managed cruise control
- Lane keep assist
-brake boost if you edge too close to another vehicle
It is more to do with the sensors and cameras, but the driver is very much still in charge.
These features are very common now & it would not be difficult for MG to bring it on in the Gloster & market it as above to get everybody's attention.
Infact it is good they are introducing those features. I feel these features should get into mainstream cars soon. It is more to do with "Safety First "

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

Even though the company is saying that this is a 50L Indian rupee car, if you look at Chinese market, Maxus D90 retails at a very low pricehttp://www.chinamobil.ru/eng/saic/maxus-d90/?view=props (156700 - 249000) compared to Everest http://www.chinamobil.ru/eng/cars/ford/ford-everest/ ( 265800 - 358800 yuan).

In China the top most variant of Everest runs with 2.0 liter Eco boost engine. (For the above data ) and lower trims are running on 2.2 Diesel. The Maxus 90 are also running on a petrol turbo charged engine. So it's almost apple to apple comparison. So with the current pricing of top most Endeavour here (35.1 lakh), Gloster top most variant can be priced as low as 24.35 lakhs. And with that pricing, people will grab this car for sure. (Like use and throw )

re: The MG Gloster, now launched at Rs 28.98 lakh

While all the anti-China sentiments are prevalent, I am sure a lot of people, including the competitors are very keen to look on what the MG Gloster has got to offer. While the question on what Gloster has got to offer has been answered to a great extent, the positioning of the car still seems to be a question mark. If it undercuts the Fortuner/ Endeavour or even if it is priced similar to the Alturas G4, I am sure MG has got a winner there.

What if it is priced above Fortuner/ Endeavour? Kia tried that with Carnival. Carnival is a great alternative to someone looking for something above Innova but didn't want to spend all the way to Vellfire/ V class. However, But, carnival did not take off very well. So, I believe MG shouldn't be pricing the Gloster above Endeavour/ Fortuner though, visually it looks a lot bigger.

This pricing is going to be crucial and Pricing + Value Offered should overweigh the trust Toyota has built with the Fortuner over the years in India.
