Spy images of the Maruti Ertiga with a BS6 compliant diesel engine have surfaced online.

The test mule of the Maruti Ertiga has the DDiS badge on the front fender and a window sticker that clearly mentions "BS6 FS".

At present, the Ertiga is offered with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 94 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque @ 1,500-2,500 rpm and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The exact specifications of the BS6 compliant diesel unit are unknown. However, rumours suggest that it could be a Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre diesel that is also being tested in the S-Cross.

Re: Maruti Ertiga with BS6 Diesel engine spied

Looks like Maruti wants customers to know that diesel cars are being tested, hiding the badge on both S-Cross and this are no difficult task

Only thing to watch out for is price difference. AT would make it a better deal.

Re: Maruti Ertiga with BS6 Diesel engine spied

I totally agree on the AT option. Price difference was huge between Petrol and Diesel Ertiga with BSIV option itself. With BSVI, 1.6 Fiat Sourced Engine (Though its not known yet) and AT option we need to see how much will be the difference. Will XL6 also get this Diesel option? Should be interesting to see when launched.

Even though the website of Ertiga does not feature any variants with the Diesel powerplant,

The mileage section has a mention of DDiS 200 Smart Hybrid MT with a mileage of 25.47Km/L and DDiS 225 (1.5L) MT with a mileage of 24.20Km/L

Anyone has an update of the launch of Ertiga BS6 Diesel models?

They must be running the old BS4 website (though very unlike Maruti to make such small mistakes). The immediate giveaway is the mention of DDiS 200 MJD engine which was not upgraded to BS6.

The way the market has been moving and Maruti's market share so far, they will not be in a hurry to launch the diesels again.

Re: Maruti Ertiga with BS6 Diesel engine spied

As per Business Line. Maruti is working on 1.5L Diesel engine to be used in XL6, Ciaz and Brezza.
It is working on the Diesel engine for over a year.

If it’s launched in diesel avatar, it will be biggest U turn by India’s largest auto mfg, about their justification on petrol only cars.

Re: Maruti Ertiga with BS6 Diesel engine spied

I don't think Maruti has any specific stand on petrol vs diesel. They are just going with the flow.
Initially they justified petrol.
Once they got DDS from FIAT, they started praising diesel.
They had to stop the DDS because of BS6 and they went back to petrol.
Now with the crazy petrol prices, diesel is back for larger cars in the portfolio.

Re: Maruti Ertiga with BS6 Diesel engine spied

Good move from Maruti to bring back their diesel ammunition. XL6 in diesel would be a good seller. Hyundai sales might have triggered this from Maruti? Harrier/Safari, Compass, Hector/Hector+, Creta/Seltos, Sonet/Venue, Ecosport, Thar, and XUV 300 are selling decent number of diesel cars in India.

On a lighter note, is their Petrol vs Diesel calculator still applicable for their diesel variants

I have doubts regarding the veracity of this article. How can a new XL6 be coming in January when the vehicle itself was launched less than 2 years ago? Unless of course they are referring to a diesel XL6 as a completely new product.

Re: Maruti Ertiga with BS6 Diesel engine spied

Although I am not very hopeful, if they can also develop/source a competent 6 speed automatic gearbox and pair it with this engine, it will give the Koreans sleepless nights. Even a manual gearbox but stellar FE should do wonders.

Re: Maruti Ertiga with BS6 Diesel engine spied

The 'well built' product of MS now on sale is SCross. Going by the article it doesn't get this 1.5L unit! I was expecting SCross with 1.5 diesel atleast for a year before they close/revive the model.

This is going to be a sales homerun for Maruti! The XL6 is already a good seller and the Ertiga is even more in demand as waiting period lies at 8 months despite average monthly sales being at 8k. Although a good news for the customers and Maruti, I'm not sure how salespersons of lower-spec Creta and Marazzo will react to this! These two cars are surely going to be affected the most by the XL6 diesel!

What is even more interesting is that they plan to plonk this engine in the Vitara Brezza later in February! Can this result in competition elimination and successful regain of the "Bestselling SUV" tag for the Brezza from the Creta? I can bet 1000$ that this is going to happen.

Although, I am a little bit worried about the S-Cross as the source article even mentions the possibility of a Ciaz diesel but has no details mentioned about an S-Cross diesel!

Quote:
Requesting anonymity, the person said, in future, the same engine can be fitted to the only mid-sedan it has — the Ciaz — which had earlier too enjoyed having the 1.5-litre diesel engine at its heart.
Has Maruti lost all hopes from this underrated car? I hope not!

In the recent past, I don't remember seeing their ad questioning the 'savings' by buying a diesel car.

Now it make sense and, kind of expected as Maruti prepares to jump over the fence.

From concerns around diesel car price, fuel prices' gap and DPF issues, life has come full circle as India's largest selling OEM plans to re-enter diesel market. Interesting times ahead!
