Reliance setting up Rs. 7bn biodiesel plant in AP

http://www.andhracafe.com/index.php?m=show&id=19257

Chevron US will be the partner in this venture. Reliance is already growing jatropha in a 200-acre plot at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.

That answers a lot of questions on where the supply of biodeisel will come from..... Already Scorpio/Mercs etc lined up with Biodiesel models.... Are we going to move ahead of other countries in this aspect????

Wondering if Mahindra already knew about this before even thinking of biodiesel scorpios...

First of all, I wonder if this is "news" or just some rumor.

Nothing to worry there spadival. Tsk has already given you the source... and it was there in the TOI also. I remember having read it.

The thing is unlike diesel refineries (the fossilled variety) the biodiesel is a more tricky affair. It is not something that has nothing of a fixed pattern. For example for one batch a single wash may do the trick while for another it may need 3 such washes. More worryingly there are enough reports in US that proves the fact that some of the best biodiesel comes out of the backyard/garage variety of individual ventures rather than from the big names. Reliance being the "assembly line" theorists (everything on a large automated scale=huge profits) I wonder what happens to the quality!

Sometimes it helps not to be too smart of a car company. You just need to move forward the way Mahindra is doing (biodiesel and hybrid cars). There is nothing about being ahead of other countries. Its about doing whats right for a particular country (like Brazil did). With 70% people dependent on agriculture its high time the government encourages initiatives with tax breaks etc.,

This is good news. Biodiesel is much less carcinogenic than petro-diesel.

Great news. After endless studies and committees someone is finally moving on the ground..

Rudolph Diesel ran his first diesel engine on groundnut oil because there was no diesel yet!

If Railways, state RTC and others switch that is great start already! This plus ethanol from sugarcane and gas from KG Basin can keep us going for long time...

The last I heard, the AP CM refused to give an appointment to Mukesh Ambani because of another issue between AP and RIL over gas prices. I hope that does not jeopardize the bio-diesel project.
