As a teenager, the 1st gen city and the Mitsubishi Lancer were the most beautiful and sporty looking cars on the road. Looking at those modded lancers was always a treat.

Skoda Octavia vRS 230 bhp. Discussion on cult car is not complete without mentioning this car. 2 year old/ 30k kms run cars are selling for only 10% depreciation in the used market.

Re: The Cult Vehicles of India!

Zen Diesel, nowadays rare car to find, but had its own cult following.

Mahindra Scorpio, first choice of many local politicians in its day!

Among two wheelers, First gen Karizma, First gen Pulsar that created the 'premium commuters' segment in India apart from the true blue cult vehicles from Yamaha, RD and RXs, will be my picks.

Re: The Cult Vehicles of India!

How about the following? (In specific order)

- Lambretta : Enough said!
- Hero Puch : Had a huge fan following among the young in its days.
- Fiat Uno : Created a history when bookings were open. It's a different story that the company could not deliver.
- HM Ambassador : Carried almost all the politicians in it's day. A well maintained example turns heads even today
Daewoo Cielo : Though short lived , I think this was the first MPFi car in India

Absolutely agree. The Contessa sure is a cult classic, especially the one with dual round headlights. I particularly did not care for the one with rectangular headlights.

If some one were to bring back this design, updated with modern engine and interiors, I would pick this in a instant.

Speaking of the Cielo - as a Bank manager back in the day, my dad used to tell me of so many Income Tax raids and account audits (and forcible attachments of accounts) of people who'd buy a Cielo.

Having a Cielo was a lightning rod for the taxman to strike at you How's that as a criterion for a cult car?

Re: The Cult Vehicles of India!

When it comes to CULT nothing comes close to the legendary Bullet. Not the modern Classic, Thunderbird or the GT Twins, but a pure old school Standard Bullet. It's brute size, loads of torque, go anywhere capabilities and the sheer ruggedness made it have a cult foowing amongst the indian motorcycles.

In pictures, my very own Bullet aka BOMBER.

Re: The Cult Vehicles of India!

Willys MB/ Willys Jeep

The most iconic vehicle of all time, not just in India but globally would be the Willys Jeep. Doesn't matter if it was the original Willys MB or the CJ5 or the Mahindra produced later versions in India or the latest Roxor in the US, it still has the most dominant cult following and it won't fade away till this civilization stands.

Re: The Cult Vehicles of India!

In my view, Zen Carbon and Zen Steel should definitely make it to the CULT vehicles list.

Wish, Maruti brings them back in a new avatar,

Re: The Cult Vehicles of India!

How can anyone forget the poor man's Evo? The ultimate rally weapon.

The Mitsubishi Cedia. I still remember a few years ago I walked into the local Mitsu dealer who had a showroom piece which I kept visiting in the chance that I would buy it off them when I can afford one after admiring one for years. That was a few months before Mitsu declared the car would go off the market as they'd pursue SUVs now.

A few weeks after the announcement I arrived at the dealership to see the last Cedia gone and in its place the Pajero Sport.
Terrible feeling that day. Still on the lookout for a low mileage one to own before the 15 year scrap rule kicks in.
