Converting their 1.5 diesel into a BS6 compliant engine is no big deal, and I don't even think they need to implement DPF + SCR on it. Any modern 1.5 diesel can be made to meet the BS6 norms with just DPF + LNT.

If Maruti Suzuki find it difficult to do it themselves, they can always hire the services of an external company who would gladly do it for them for a fee.

Vitara Brezza used to sell in huge numbers when it was a diesel-only car. Now, its sales have come down noticeably after it was transformed into a petrol-only model. This is not because the 105 PS 1.5 litre K15 is a bad engine (it's quite a good one, despite being naturally aspirated), but it's because the Vitara Brezza loses the sub-4m "small car" tax benefits with this K15 engine, as it displaces > 1200cc.
With LNT, any car maker can meet BS6 norms but for meeting CAFE and RDE, for a light weight car maker like Suzuki and having comparitively high FEs already, SCR is a must. And I believe SCR tech will be required by all makers to meet CAFE / RDE. So, we will be seeing a further increase in Diesel car prices in next 1-2 years. The urea tank itself is expensive and DPF costs are extra.

As far as the 4m tax rebate is concerned, Suzuki has the 1.0L turbo engine option from Baleno RS to take advantage of. Will they do so or not is a different question which I fear will be decided by bean counters.

What would be the sales scenario( in terms of volumes of Dzire, Brezza and Ertiga) if Maruti Suzuki re-launches its diesel engine?

Maruti's Petrol only portfolio sees impressive figures in Feb-21 sales :

- Vitara Brezza outsells competition, with just one engine offering
- Dzire now sees an upward tick, logistics segment?
- Will the upswing in petrol prices reverse this trend?

Maruti's MPV in diesel guise to launch in this festive season, spied in production form ?

The test mule was wrapped in heavy camouflage. It also featured red registration plates, which are used on test prototypes. However, the test mule was devoid of any ‘DDiS’ badge that Maruti used to stick around the front fenders on its diesel cars.

Report indicates Maruti Suzuki's diesel engine is nearing completion to be put into production.

First cars to get the engine will be Ertiga and Ciaz.

This engine will also power the next-generation Vitara Brezza coming later this year.

The upcoming crossover code named D22 being jointly developed with Toyota will also be the recipient of this engine.

I think Indian auto got this news from the Team-BHP itself. It was shared by an anonymous fan of Team-BHP back in the January. Here is the thread for the same Link

Quote:
We have been told that the 1.5-litre diesel unit is almost ready and will be first launched in the Ertiga and Ciaz. The same engine will also be offered in the next generation Vitara Brezza (codenamed: YXA) and possibly in the D22, which is a new crossover that is being developed in collaboration with Toyota.

Maruti Suzuki may first fit its 1.5-litre diesel engine in upcoming XL6 MPV
Quote:
The country’s largest passenger vehicle maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) will soon be ready with its 1.5-litre diesel engine, which may be fitted in the upcoming models of Ertiga, XL6, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza.

Sources in the know told BusinessLine that the company is working on this engine for over a year now at its powertrain factory in Manesar (Haryana), which could fill the void of diesel options in its upcoming products.

“The diesel 1.5-litre engine may come with the new XL6 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that the company plans to launch around January. Later, it may be fitted to the Vitara Brezza that MSIL plans to launch in February at the Auto Expo and then to Ertiga MPV,” a source privy to the development said.

Requesting anonymity, the person said, in future, the same engine can be fitted to the only mid-sedan it has — the Ciaz — which had earlier too enjoyed having the 1.5-litre diesel engine at its heart. Ertiga also briefly had the engine its earlier avatar.

When asked about the developments, a company spokesperson, said, “We do not give any forward-looking guidance on products.”
