Did anyone see this video? Looks like jeep has a non trailhawk version of the compass, 4x4 AT. Not sure if it's the top end.

At 5:54 in the review, Renuka does say the Auto is available in two variants - the Longitude and the Limited Plus. Longitude gets the 7 inch touch screen, dual zone climate control, cruise control and rear camera. The Limited Plus gets a larger 8.4 inch touch screen, a sunroof, keyless entry, 6 airbags etc. among other features. Both will be 4X4 variants.

So one can expect a Diesel Auto 4X4 in the Longitude variant that is fairly priced that has most of the essential features and is BS6 compliant! The Longitude Manual BS4 is priced at around 18 lakhs ex-showroom with deep discounting prevailing of around 1.5 lakhs or so. One has to add the premium for BS6 modifications, the auto transmission and the 4X4 gear. With some stretch towards value pricing, I feel Jeep can land the Longitude 4X4 auto under Rs. 20 lakhs ex-showroom. Would be a good buy at that price point. I hope they also provide the raised/modified front lip ensuring the car can do some level of off-roading, even if not to the TrailHawk standards.

Hi guys,

Could you please share your experience with respect to the airflow intensity/throw from the air-con vents on either side of HU when compared to the ones near A pillar?
I felt the throw is lesser for the ones near HU with the same fan speed when compared to the side ones.
Thanks

In the interview, he also says - they will evaluate Automatics in the 4x2 models as well. Everyone knows the sales have been higher for the 4x2 as compared to 4x4 - not sure why Jeep cannot introduce the Automatics in the 4x2 models. Looks like that will take another year...

Cause the ZF9 gearbox they use is only 4x4. Everywhere around the world the automatic diesel is with 4x4 ZF9 box.

They need to develop a new 2W gearbox which he can't openly say on live television that they don't even have the option. lol. Instead he gave good marketing spiel as to how the brand stands for 4x4 and customers expect 4x4 and all premium brands offer 4x4 AT variants.

What I am more interested is the gear ratios of this 4x4 ZF9. In Trailhawk the gearbox had a very low 1st gear that would engage only in rock mode.

This is a non trail hawk so have they made the ratios different? Does it now get a regular 1st gear usable in daily traffic?

Thanks. The document does show the difference between the 2 variants Limited and Trailhawk and for the ZF9.

Also as you can see the ZF9 is only for 4x4 as I mentioned. The ratios seem identical for both which means 1st is only for crawling in off road mode.

The engine is not the 2.0L Multijet in the PDF but the 2.4L Tiger shark petrol.

Jeep should have gotten that engine to India instead of the crappy 1.4L Multi-air with unreliable DCT.

If you see the PDF there is a front wheel drive 6 speed AT with 172BHP. For a Compass segment and premium product the 2.4L Tigershark engine with 172BHP would have been better suited.

The 1.4L lacks punch, has poor FE and the DCT is unreliable. How much worse could the 2.4L Tigershark have been lol:

Most cars in the Jeep's segment are offered with petrol engines. Mazda has just started to offer diesel engines in their CX series. In general, diesel is not popular in the New Zealand market for personal vehicle ownership. You see them only on UTE's and German SUV's. Audi's latest iteration of the A8L is offered only with a TFSI unit. Their latest diesel engines do not meet emissions criteria for the NZ market.

The 2.4l could very well be offered for the Indian market as the Compass that is sold in NZ is shipped from India. The only thing is that it could spiral costs higher for the Compass, which is priced high for a lame 1.4l turbo petrol.

The Autocar Test Drive report is now out and presents some vital information:

Jeep Compass 4x4 Diesel AT BS6 coming in lower variants-image1-1.jpg

Rumours suggest that Jeep could launch the Compass 4x4 Diesel AT with a BS6 compliant engine on January 13, 2020.

The Compass 4x4 Diesel AT is expected to come in Longitude Option trim priced at Rs. 26 lakh (on-road, Coimbatore). It is also expected to be offered in Limited and Limited Plus trims. Dealerships have reportedly started accepting bookings.

The Compass is expected to be powered by a BS6 compliant 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine, which is likely to be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Looks like someone at FCA India finally got the memo lol:

If only this spec were available during launch :Frustrati

Although, I don't get one thing. Why could't FCA be as aggressive in launching the compass like Kia did with the Seltos? Well, agreed that Kia had a head-start by having Hyundai as it's sister company, but FCA is no slouch either.

I guess this is just another case of "better late then never".

Looks like the Compass front bumper lip has been modified (reduced) a bit. That augurs well for potential mild-off roading.

It was modified earlier in the limited plus variant and may be now they have changed it for all variants. It is a good thing as apart from functionality, it looks better.

Jeep was seriously slow in launching this variant. The Trailhawk came out in June 2019 which was already behind schedule.

Meanwhile MG and Kia have run away with sales where some of those buyers wouldn't have minded upgrading to a Compass.

The Longitude (O) is 23L on road with 2WD. If you add BS6+ZF9 AT+4WD and the price is 26L as per speculation then the top end Limited plus 4x4 ZF9 AT will be close to 32L on road.

Overall 2-3L below Trailhawk. It kind of makes the Trailhawk pointless since that is 34L odd on road.

I feel I should applaud the turtle-slow Jeep guys sitting somewhere else in Maharashtra (that's me being sarcastic).

For years, there was a void in the segment for a good diesel AT SUV, other than the Creta. Jeep did nothing. They finally launched a Diesel AT 2 years too late, but it was so overpriced that only Mukesh Ambani could afford it.

In lesser time, Kia set up an all new factory, hired thousands of employees, got hundreds of vendors onboard and launched the Seltos (which has a great Diesel AT). Finally, Jeep crawled out of its bed and readied the Diesel AT in lower-priced variants (which will still be more expensive than the competition).

Not to forget, the next-gen Creta Diesel AT can be seen on the horizon (next-gen XUV500 isn't too far away either). Other than die-hard Compass fans, no one is really going to bother with the Compass Diesel AT. Jeep shouldn't have woken up at all. The Compass will soon be the oldest product in the class, the most expensive and the one with the smallest cabin.

If anyone wants to know how to ruin a product, just talk to the Jeep India guys.
