Ford is doing price corrections with BS6 launches, smart move indeed. Hope others take some learning from them. All the best Ford.

re: The BS6 Ford Endeavour with new 2.0L diesel engine, now launched at 29.55 lakhs

Hope they sell a few or more.

What's with the colors though? What happened to the beautiful maroon? They should have a blue as well. I deeply dislike the champagne / brown colors new vehicles are coming with. Almost like the sun-burnt orange color that was all the rage a few years ago.

To each his own, but come on Ford, get a few nice colors in there.

True that. I too was very disappointed to learn about the degradation of the engine to 2.0. However I paused and pondered. Here are my thoughts -

1) The 2.0 engine is much lighter than the 3.2 which will ensure adequate power.
2) The 10 speed auto will make the engine much relaxed in higher RPM's.
3) 2.0 with 10 speed gear box = wonderful FE
4) Now if we are sulking over the single turbo for us, against the bi turbo for other markets, guys relax just build your car. Get your ECU mapped and I am sure it will be a wilder and more refined beast than the old 3.2 workhorse !!!

My only qualm is the softer suspension and only three colour options to chose from now .

Good to think of positive aspects, eco-friendlyness and feel good about it.

BTW the vehicle weight has actually increased from the old model, so forget being lighter with new engine.

Here is the snippet from old brochure.

Here is the new kerb weight

Peak Torque comes in only at 2000 RPM. This is not good for a large SUV that can push 3 Tons when fully loaded. The Bi-Turbo would have flattened out the Torque Curve better.

I can understand for the lower end models. But at least for the fully loaded 4x4 Titanium, they should have gone for the Bi-Turbo Model, given the extra weight of the 4WD system. I hope Ford does get the sense in their head in the future.

Besides, the 2.0 Panther Engine is made in India, so there is not import duty costs, etc..

A quick analysis of the new engine. With a peak torque at around 2000 rpm and a torque band between 1700/2500 rpm, the 10 speed auto will have it's work cut out. To mantain similar acceleration time to the older engines, the first few gears may be short. The higher gears too may pull well until 120kmph post which the performance will taper off due the high kerb weight and taller gearing and anything about 150 kmph may be the absolute top end. The fuel economy post 120kmph may fall drastically compared to the claimed again due higher kerb weight, small engine and the gearbox.

I think that is the only logical way to do it considering only few people go for 4x4 in India. Offering 4x4 in all trims may not be profitable for them since it forms only a very small part of the total sales. So you can offer it only a few trims. With that constraint, it is better to only offer it only in top trims.

The argument of higher priced 4x4s being less likely to see mud and slush is not valid once you cross 20 lakhs OTR. For some who can spend 30 lakh on an SUV can easily stretch 2-3 lakhs if he wants 4x4. In fact, I would remove that manual trim completely. Very few people will want an MT after spending 30 lakhs.

The 10 speed AT has great reviews worldwide. It's known to shift decisively and quickly. I had driven the old 3.2 and found the gearbox to be a bit slow and confused at times. Even with the lower power figures, I think this new engine will be quite good to drive because of the great gearbox. The Bi-Tdi would have been better, but I think the 2.0 170 will be better in the real world than the erstwhile 3.2, while being quite close in outright acceleration.

From where did you find this information? I think 2.0 is made in Thailand and South Africa only.

10AT box must be the reason for increase in weight. Below is the power to weight & Torque to weight comparison between 2 engines.

3.2 Engine - 200PS (197 Bhp) 470 Nm - Kerb Weight : 2394 Kgs (4x4)

Power to weight ratio (Bhp/Ton) : 82

Torque to weight ratio (Nm/Ton) : 196

2.0 Engine - 170PS (168 Bhp) 420 Nm - Kerb Weight : 2410 Kgs (4x4) 2310 Kgs (4x2)

4x4

Power to weight ratio (Bhp/Ton) : 70

Torque to weight ratio (Nm/Ton) : 174

4x2

Power to weight ratio (Bhp/Ton) : 73

Torque to weight ratio (Nm/Ton) : 182

If this is true, then the pricing could have been better. Plus somebody in the group just shared Nov 2019 prices which are similar to the introductory prices.
