Re: Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020

2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series off-road specs:

Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-t2.jpg

-The new LandCruiser 300 Series with 18-inch wheels and shorter bumpers – likely the GR Sport , or the entry-level model with a unique front bumper – claims an approach angle of 32 degrees, and a departure angle of 26.5 degrees.

-A ground clearance figure of 230mm is claimed [this applies to range-topping versions with taller bumpers (with less clearance below them) and 20-inch wheels, suggesting the GR Sport and/or entry-level model with different bumpers could be capable of clearing taller obstacles.]

-A breakover angle for the 300 Series nor has the vehicle's maximum wading depth has been confirmed (The outgoing 200 Series clams a 21-degree breakover angle and 700mm maximum wading depth)

-Photos of base models posted online indicate 300 Series vehicles with 18-inch wheels are wrapped in 265/65 R18 tyres – 20mm narrower than before, translating to 31.6 inches of diameter, and 10.4 inches of width

- Flagship grades' 20-inch wheels are shod in 265/55 R20 rubber – converting to a 31.5-inch diameter, and 10.4-inch width – manufactured by Dunlop

-Up to five Multi-Terrain Select off-road drive modes are said to be on offer (when low range is engaged), catering to different driving environments: Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud and Deep Snow.

-They join a further six regular drive modes – Eco, Normal, Comfort, Sports, Sports+ and Custom – which vary transmission programming, suspension behaviour, engine response and the behaviour of the climate control system (likely switching it off in Eco mode to save fuel).

-An off-road crawl control system – which can be varied between Low, Mid and High settings – allows the 300 Series to cross rough terrain both uphill and downhill at a fixed speed without the driver touching the pedals.

-Other off-road features on offer include a new Multi-Terrain Monitor that makes the vehicle 'invisible' to show objects normally out of the driver's view – allowing for easier placement of the front wheels off-road – plus 360-degree cameras and individual tyre pressure monitors.

-Drivers are greeted with a 7.0-inch digital display between two analog dials, along with a colour head-up display, with both sitting behind a leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment.

-There's also a fingerprint reader built into the start-stop button, intended to reduce thefts by storing up to 10 different fingerprints, each able to be linked to a driver's climate control preferences, seating position and favourite radio station.

-Second-row passengers benefit from two of the four climate control zones on offer, along with dual 11.6-inch entertainment screens mounted to the front seatbacks.

-Other available features inside and out include a 14-speaker JBL premium sound system, six USB ports (two up front, four in the rear), wireless smartphone charging, a cabin air ioniser, electric front seats, power-operated single-piece tailgate, and a household power outlet in the boot.

-No mention of a hybrid, however that option is likely due in 2025 alongside or close to the arrival of the LandCruiser-based Lexus LX, as development continues.

-The 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series will be sold in other countries with twin-turbo V6 petrol power (305kW/650Nm), also backed by a 10-speed auto. Toyota showed graphs (pictured below) of the power and performance difference between the diesel and petrol V8s versus the V6s.

Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-t1.jpg

-The 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series is due in local showrooms between October and December (inclusive) this year.

- Pricing is not due to be announced until closer to the on-sale date, but Toyota dealers have told they expect the price to increase by $10,000 to $15,000 depending on the model ( Australia )

Re: Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020

As an ex owner of a LC 200 , I feel the shape of the LC200 was way better , especially with regard to the rear portion , beyond the B pillar that is.
The rear of the new one is too boxy and is very similar to the Nissan patrol Y62.
The other issue is that the naturally aspirated petrol V8s especially the 5.7Litre one was a class apart. No idea how the turbocharged V6s are going to feel.
The one thing I agree is that the LC300 has a better looking interior than the LC 200.

This would make an amazing armoured car for the super rich (not their kids). In this sense, I am glad it does not have a sunroof.

It does have a sunroof. A standard one and not the panoramic.

That wide-long-big face & that monstrous engine under the hood surely makes it a mammoth! I liked the blackened front which seems like 2 variants, similar to that of the levender and the fortuner!

Never mind, I don’t think we’ll see this on the shores, even if we do, we will mostly get a de-tuned engine.

Re: Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020

The overall shape, D pillar, wheel arches and tail lights remind me too much of the Sumo Grande. I can't unsee the similarities after having noticed them. Does anyone else see a similarity?

Apologies if I ruined someone's dream car.

Finger authentication for the start button should be optional.

It'll be annoying to remove gloves in the Midwest and I've had many experiences where the fingerprint scanners don't work well due to the dryness of the skin.

Guess it is only on an experimental basis in the GCC market. AFAIK, only Hyundai has launched fingerprint start system, that too in the Chinese market. Maybe there is some other legal aspect that manufacturers are reluctant to get into given their non-tech background.

Re: Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020

Seven decades of the Toyota Land Cruiser

Before the Land Cruiser (1950s)
Quote:
Toyota took its first steps in the off-roader segment when it developed a Jeep-like prototype called BJ for the Japanese armed forces in the early 1950s. Toyota transformed it into a civilian model aimed at farmers, off-roaders, and anyone in need of a rugged 4x4. Around 300 units were built.

The 20-Series (1955)
Quote:
Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser nameplate in 1954, and it gave the model its first major overhaul the following year. Called 20-Series internally, the updated 4x4 featured a new-look design that was less military-like, and Toyota’s F-Type straight-six engine.

The Land Cruiser’s American debut (1958)
Quote:
Executives identified the United States as a potentially huge market for the Land Cruiser in the 1950s, but Toyota didn’t establish its American sales division until 1958.

The 40-Series (1960)
Quote:
1960 brought a comprehensive evolution of the 20-Series called 40-Series that became the best-known Land Cruiser ever built.

The 50-Series (1967)
Quote:
Toyota shifted the Land Cruiser towards the mainstream when it released the 50-Series in 1967. While it shared most of its running gear with the 40, it arrived as a four-door-only model with a fixed roof to compete against the Jeep Wagoneer.

The 60-Series (1980)
Quote:
The 60-Series variant of the Land Cruiser launched in 1980. Offered only with four doors, it played a significant role in defining the direction its successors followed for decades to come.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-6toyotalandcruiser60series.jpeg

The 70-Series (1984)
Quote:
Called 70-Series, the 40’s successor finally appeared in 1984 with a completely overhauled exterior design that borrowed a handful of styling cues from the bigger 60
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-7toyotalandcruiser70series.jpeg

The 80-Series (1990)
Quote:
Launched in 1990, the 80-Series is often considered the first Land Cruiser to plant its flag in the luxury segment. Bigger than the 60 it replaced, it gained a more aerodynamic design, better materials throughout the cabin and, in many variants, a full-time four-wheel-drive system.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-8toyotalandcruiser80eries.jpg

The first-generation Prado (1990)
Quote:
Toyota filled the growing gap between the full-size Land Cruiser and the 70-Series when it introduced the first Prado in 1990.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-9toyotalandcruiserprado.jpeg

The Lexus LX 450 (1996)
Quote:
Toyota’s Lexus division released its own version of the 80 called LX 450 on the American market in 1996.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-10lexuslx450.jpg

The second-generation Prado (1996)
Quote:
Toyota rummaged through its global parts bin to develop the second-generation Prado released in 1996.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-11toyotalandcruiserprado2.jpeg

The 100-Series (1998)
Quote:
Toyota pushed the Land Cruiser even further upmarket when it released the 100-Series for 1998. Still built with body-on-frame construction, it received the nameplate’s first V8 engine (though six-cylinders remained available in some markets) and it benefited from a better steering system that made it easier to drive.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-12toyotalandcruiser100series.jpeg

The 105-Series (1998)
Quote:
Not everyone was pleased with the updates made to the 100-Series, and some users argued the Land Cruiser had become too advanced for its own good. Toyota listened to its critics and released a stripped-down, heavy-duty version of the truck called 105-Series in 1998.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-13toyotalandcruiser105eries.jpg

The Lexus LX 470 (1998)
Quote:
The Lexus LX 450 stood out from the Land Cruiser with a brand-specific front end that featured four lights instead of two and a smaller grille, wall-to-wall wood and leather in the cabin, and a much longer list of standard and optional features. Like the Land Cruiser, it was powered by a 4.7-litre V8 engine.

The third-generation Prado (2002)
Quote:
Toyota released the third-generation Land Cruiser Prado in 2002 with a fresh look penned in the design studio it operates near Nice, France. It was again available with two or four doors, and it remained primarily marketed at buyers in Europe and in Japan

The 200-Series (2007)
Quote:
Released in 2007, the 200 was available with a long list of electronics including Downhill Assist Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and Toyota’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which reduces body roll without compromising suspension travel.

The Lexus LX 570 (2007)
Quote:
Lexus introduced its take on the 200-Series at the 2007 edition of the New York motor show. It was called LX 570, a nameplate that signalled its V8 had been upsized to 5.7 litres.

The FJ Cruiser (2007)
Quote:
Visually, the FJ borrowed key styling cues like round headlights from the FJ40, Toyota removed the FJ from its American range in 2014, and it hasn’t replaced the model.
Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut later in 2020-18toyotafjcruiser.jpeg

The fourth-generation Prado (2009)
Quote:
Toyota’s fourth-generation Prado gained a series of updates that trickled down from the full-size Land Cruiser. It was fitted with more tech features, including cameras that helped drivers avoid obstacles off-road, and variants positioned near the top of the trim hierarchy offered luxury saloon-like comfort. Lexus assigned the GX 460 nameplate to its version of the Prado.
