Those tail lamps look inset so may be not too worry too much. The protruding tail lamps on Tata Altroz or Renault Kiger and the likes look more delicate.

Also, the front end gives me some 1st gen Tata Ace Vibes

Hyundai's AX1 COMING IN September.

When you look at the camouflage film, there is a circle on both sides of the inside of the grill, so what it is?

You can see the interior even though it's small, but it seems like a full digital cluster is applied.

Could be the top variant.

Hyundai designers are probably enduring the side effects of 'work from home' arrangement. Sharing screentime with kids at home seems to be showing up. This particular design looks to have drawn high inspiration from cartoon cars IMO.

Front portion especially the horizontal section holding the headlights looks like it has drawn inspiration from a soundbar. What's with that gaping hole beside the LH headlight. I hope it's not a subwoofer powered horn made especially for Indian roads

I feel the Hyundai AX1 and the Kia Soul will share this same platform for India and will compete against each other along with Ignis and Tata's Upcoming car for the compact upmarket Tallboy hatchback segment.

Owning the Ignis has made me realize that it's a boon to not bend and stretch your lower back to get inside the car. (My occupants hitting their head on the upper part of door sill is another story )

I used to dislike Tallboy design when I was younger and now I love it. The Japanese Kei cars are my favourite. Compact, easy to park, easy to drive on single lane road and easy on the pocket.

Yeah. I was disappointed after the launch. All I wanted it to be was a cute little car for the cities.

This is such a beautiful design. I wish it were actually available, I would definitely buy it as a second city /school run about car. It's a pity concept/ prototype designs do not make it to on road product as it is.

Hyundai AX1 to go into production in September 2021

We have already seen numerous spy shots and teaser images of Hyundai's quirky little compact crossover (codenamed: AX1). Now, according to a media report, the car is set to go into production in September this year.



The AX1 will be built at the newly commissioned Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) factory in South Korea. The plant is a joint venture between Gwangju city and Hyundai Motor and is said to have an annual production capacity of 70,000 units.

The AX1 is a pseudo-SUV, which is likely to be based on the K1 platform that also underpins the Santro and Grand i10 NIOS. It will be positioned below the Venue in Hyundai's line-up and will compete with the upcoming Tata HBX.

The car is rumoured to be powered by a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a turbocharged unit with a similar displacement. The engines could be mated to either a manual gearbox, automated manual transmission or a proper automatic gearbox.

- The AX1 compact SUV is about 3.7-3.8m, which is about 20cm shorter than the Venue.

- The vehicle is based on the K1 platform used in Hyundai's i10 Nios and Santro.

- The entry-level trim is 5 lakh (about 7.63 million won) and the high-end model is 7.5 lakh (about 11.44 million won), which is cheaper than the Grand i10 Nios. The local competitive model is Maruti's Ignis.

- The powertrain is said to be equipped with the same 1.0-liter, 1.1-liter 3-cylinder gasoline and 1.2-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engines as the Kia Morning.( market specific)

- Transmissions are continuously variable transmission (IVT) in Korea and 5-speed manual and automatic transmissions in export models.

-Most of the features are expected to come from the Grand i10 Nios. A few things are added to the upper trim here. 8.0-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions, wireless charger, motorized side mirrors, keyless Entry & Go, etc


- Launching in September this year.
