Re: MG 8-Seater MPV to debut at Auto Expo 2020

This looks too drab to excite private consumer and too expensive to entice the commercial market. Wonder what's MG's "ace in the hole" with this one since it has to compete with KIA Carnival.

MG 8-Seater MPV to debut at Auto Expo 2020

Even if MG manages to get this MUV to India and price it lower than the Innova, I think this is a non starter. Typical Van kind of designs have always failed here, right from the Nissan Evalia, the Chevrolet Enjoy and the Lodgy have all failed to click. This looks like a MUV for the fleet operators, but for their kind of use, you need to have a traditional body on frame chassis for durability.

Isn't this the same size as a Kia Carnival?
Why is the Kia Carnival acceptable, and this is not?
Oh, and what about the Toyota Veilfire?

Would be amazing if this thing ends up undercutting the Carnival by a couple of lakhs.

Although that front end definitely reminds me of the Chevrolet Enjoy.

This one has FLOP written all over it. Simply because no matter how much lipstick they put on it, it still looks ordinary and utilitarian. The van bodystyle anyway carries a bit to stigma. Carnival found acceptance because it looks the part and comes across as a ‘mehengi gaadi’. The styling works. And everything else compliments. It is a damn good car, a genuine international product. This here looks like a cross between the V Class and the failed Chevy Enjoy. The cabin also seems meh. Add to it the negative sentiment against all things Chinese, this one is going to be a very hard sell.

This will work for sure, if Kia Carnival can garner sales there is no reason this can’t. There definitely is a case for a well priced MPV below Innova range. If priced between 15-20 lakh there will be takers.

Thanks for that yeah, those too are borderline in my opinion. Its a technical question of capability of a driver holding a car license. The same problem that allows a Honda Activa driver to drive a Hayabusa.
