According to a fresh media report, the British carmaker will unveil an all-new MPV that will be positioned against the Mahindra Marazzo and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

Developed with an investment of around Rs 1,000 crore, the new MG MPV will make its debut at the biennial event. The vehicle will be offered with 7 and 8-seats layouts. Prices of the new MG MPV are likely to start from Rs 12 lakh for the base model and go up to Rs 20 lakh for the fully-loaded variant (ex-showroom). Its launch is likely to happen in the second half of 2020.
I don't really see this as an Ertiga Rival. The suggested price is a bit too much for that. A good comfortable MUV does have potential in the 12-18 lakh segment.

This seems to be in the Hexa-XUV500 price range, and a full segment above the Ertiga. Will be interesting to see what new and exciting ideas the Chinese are bringing to this segment. God bless competition.

It can give nightmares to KIA Carnival I guess. But somehow I'm against the sliding door mechanism. It may be having it's set of pros but it always reminds me of Maruti Omni.

If the news is true, they can easily apply the same Hector formula to the MPV. Space, soft ride quality, features and bling. The MPV segment definitely has more potential for growth and MG is looking at the right price band. Unlike Kia, it doesn't have the product capability (yet) to do something like the Carnival.

MG MPV Spied

Quote:
MG wants to keep the momentum going and has an eye on the MPV market as well. The MG MPV was spotted just after it was offloaded from a shipping container at a port in Western India - bound for the Expo stands.

The MG MPV model seen here, is currently sold in China and South East Asia as the Maxus G10 - and is available in 7, 9 and 10 seat configurations. We believe the G10 MPV in these pictures to be the 7-seater variant.

The G10 is being aggressively assessed for India and if it does get green-lighted, should arrive at the start of 2021. It is likely to be sold in 6 and 7-seater variants - though all options are being assessed in terms of seat configuration. The positioning we expect would put the G10 smack between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta. So while the car would offer some premium features, it would also play the value card. But it is still too premature to confirm the final positioning MG would adopt for its MPV.

In China, the G10 is available with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that churns out 223 bhp and 345 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a six-speed manual or a six speed automatic transmission. There is also a 2.4-litre diesel engine on offer mated to a six-speed manual transmission or 1.9-litre, turbocharged diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

If these pictures of the actual car that is being planned for India, I think thats a big disappointment. This is how cars like Nissan Evalia and even the Chevrolet Enjoy looked, almost Van like and they failed.

Purely from a design point of view, it looks quite outdated. May be MG will equip it with a big touch screen and much more features, but im not sure if this will strike a cord with buyers who intend to use it for personal use.
However, going by the current track record of MG, I somehow believe they will try to showcase some novelty in this car. Lets wait and see whats the surprise, if there is one!

The Enjoy was made by Wuling who is owned by SAIC who owns MG.

Slapping an MG badge on something mundane is a bit dangerous. There is not even an attempt at a restyle. This should go up in flames!

Let's not talk about another MG car going up in flames.

The MPV is sold as a Maxus product elsewhere, while here we can see an MG badge, more or less confirmed to be the car to be displayed? If yes, then I'm disappointed.

They will look to change the design to suit Indian audiences. Redesigned bumpers and headlamp cluster, throw in enough chrome, connected car tech and price it decently, it should do well. Hopefully they'll work on the feedback they get at the expo.

Re: MG 8-Seater MPV to debut at Auto Expo 2020

The front-end looks palatable; the rear-end is pretty disappointing. MG needs a sloping rear end; a redesigned rear-spoiler coupled with a revised bumper should do the trick.

Obviously, MG will have to nail the interior. Given MG's work with the Hector, I think they should be able to nail that part.

Re: MG 8-Seater MPV to debut at Auto Expo 2020

  • The MG G10 MPV has been unveiled at Auto Expo 2020. It will be launched in India very soon, says Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG (India).
  • The MG G10 is full-size MPV like the Hyundai H-1 (Hyundai Starex) and Toyota Hiace. It’s basically a rebadged Roewe G10. The huge people mover was first showcased at the 2013 Guangzhou Auto Show. A facelift was rolled out in 2016, but the display model at Auto Expo 2020, from the design of the front bumper, appears to be the pre-facelift model.
  • SAIC’s G10 MPV seen here, like internationally, could be offered in 7-, 9- and 10-seat configurations and thus be targeted at both private and commercial buyers. It would be a cut-price Kia Carnival rival in our market.
  • The MG G10 measures 5,168 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,928 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,210 mm. In comparison, the Kia Carnival is 5,115 mm long, 1,985 mm wide and 1,755 mm tall, and its wheelbase spans a length of 3,060 mm.
  • HID Xenon headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, two electric sliding rear doors, panoramic sunroof and LED tail lamps are some of its main exterior features. Interior highlights include dual-zone automatic climate control, moon roof and 6-speaker audio system.
  • The MG G10 will likely be imported to India in CKD kits, with assembly taking place at the Halol plant. There’s no word on the launch timeline yet. The launch model will be based on a rebadged version of the facelifted Roewe G10.

Re: MG 8-Seater MPV to debut at Auto Expo 2020

To each his or her own, but to call this a private passenger car especially in the Indian context is really pushing it. I would say that even something like the Isuzu V Cross is borderline. But at least it has some aesthetic appeal.
