folks,

given that the power specs for the new DICORed Indica is almost the same as the TCIC, I would like to know what current TCIC owners feel about the practicality of upgrading their TCIC for a new DICOR Indica as and when it launches.

of course, we are still unaware about the driveability and the torque curves and other such factors, but am still keen to hear opinions.

Somewhere I feel trading in for a similar powered engine is not that great an idea. If the DICOR were around 90 bhp then it probably would have made sense.

what say folks ???

I still would think TCIC would make more sense, DICOR will come with a better Fuel Injection system in place...!

With similar specs and FE (okay, marginally better for the DICOR) but with a higher price tag, why would anyone go for the DICOR? Besides, its a new engine, while the TCIC has been around for a while. Better to stick to the lower priced SOHC 8 valve unit. But if Tata makes the TCIC standard across the range while keeping the newer engine for the DLX only, then perhaps its okay. (Something on the lines they did for their petrol cars).

It will be interesting to see what they will do. If the DICOR is indeed gonna be 50K more than the TCIC, then Swift will be having the last laugh!

I really doubt that, Maruti has always been a flop show for Diesel Vehicles, now if with the SWIFT its still an unknown market for Maruti to capture..!
I suggest wait for the Offering from TATA Dicor.

I test drove a Indigo LX DICOR.Its not worth 50K more. 10K more ok, but 50K more? You are better of with something else.
So unless the DICOR is 90bhp(which the engine is very much capable of) its not worth it. Tata knows this and hence has offered the DICOR only in the top end LX and the XL.
For a 90bhp engine, extensive modifications are needed to transmission, so I don't see it coming before 2008.

the price difference between dicor and non dicor versions is only 20k in case of marina and 50K for indigo. as per tatamotors website

32-bit microprocessor based 1396 cc DICOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) 16 valve engine with Dual Over Head Camshafts and a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) has a maximum power of 70 PS @ 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 140 Nm @ 1800-3000 rpm

So the Marina LX DICOR is actually cheaper than the Indigo LX DICOR? That makes it a great buy, IMHO.

The Dicor has vastly improved drivability as compared to the NA ofcourse, but also the TCIC version...But yes a quality issues still persist..

if both TCIC and DICOR are available, with the current specs I think TCIC will win. DICOR may find it a tough going to convince people to shell out 50k more for what people will consider essentially same car. Or else, if they change the looks of the DICORized Indica from the TCIC version it may have some chance.

Btw Tsk... how was the NVH levels of the Indigo Dicor when compared to the regular TCIC engine? Did you find a substantial difference?

yeah...thats the kind of information we need.

driveability, NVH levels etc.

The drivability is much better than the NA and TCIC and also the NVH levels when compared to the TCIC...even the test mules were not as noisy as my month old TCIC
