Unfortunately no! This is tuned down in Astor.

Looks like all launches going forward will follow this annoying approach of releasing details bit by bit. General pictures first, variants on one day, prices a few weeks after that etc.

Varaint details should also be out. This is very lame. Carmakers nowadays testing patience of the consumer.

Will come during the launch. This was just an unveil, as expected.

Not obvious from the video. But two possible reasons-

1. Detuned to avoid issues with our fuel.
2. Detuned to reduce turbo lag.

140ps is well and good if the engine is drivable and doesn't bog down below the turbo zone.

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

The good thing here is Astor will be available in showrooms this weekend (officially confirmed by Rajeev Chaba) unlike VAG twins or XUV700 which took eternity to arrive at the showrooms.

Thanks for the clarification, seems like this is the trend nowadays. Did they mention the launch date?

One big reason I can think of is they didn’t want to offer the same 160ps power in the Astor as even the Hector produces close to 160ps with it’s 1.5L turbo Petrol at a cheaper price than the Hector. Competition like Creta and Seltos are also at 140bhp

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

One good thing about this unveil is that instead of doing just a media drive and unveil, they are showing the cars in their showroom from 18th Sep. This is good move and users will be able to see the cars themselves immediately rather than waiting. What I heard is that pre-bookings at dealers are also going on and deliveries will start from November for booked cars. Also appreciate them taking Dr Deepa Malik as the voice of the AI assistant - she is a very inspiring person and MG has done well to choose her.

This looks like a good overall package and if priced well, can generate 4-5K sales per month for MG. I may just go and see the the car this weekend

No. But I always expected them to wait for VAG to reveal their final cards on September 23rd before announcing the prices.

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

Looks like MG has thrown in the kitchen sink in the Astor. Sad that automakers are not giving out the variant details or prices in one go. I think MG want to wait it out until the Taigun prices are out so that they will have the opportunity to undercut all their main rivals.

It has to be seen how its performance and driving dynamics are. Overall, happy that we are getting more options in this segment

Not clear what type of AT is mated with the turbo engine - is it TC or DSG/DCT type ?

6 speed AT means a Torque converter

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

Cant understand the obsession of car makers with the ugly orange, yellow & other such hideous colors in the TV Ads, launches & all promotional materials. Am sure there would be some marketing / consumer psychology mumbo jumbo, but personally fail to understand why they do not showcase the best possible colors in the communication (Black/ Dark Greys or any non shocking colors).

Curious usage of words. Did you get a chance to actually drive it.

If this is indeed to avoid issues with the quality of fuel, hoping the complications end with the detuned engine. The MG ZST Aussie model has a recommendation for 95RON premium unleaded petrol. Wonder if this is more than a recommendation for the Astor too, assuming 91 octane gives it any problems?!
