Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

This seems to be the perfect car which I have been waiting for all along,
perfect size, perfect engine and AT combo (Turbo petrol + TC auto) with all the safety features.

I don't care much about the connected car features. panoramic sunroof is added bonus.

Eagerly waiting for the weekend, to see the car in person at showroom.
Hope MG will arrange for media drives soon, so that we can have the forum reviews.

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

This seem to be a most suitable upgrade for my Duster AMT. It has safety, it has advanced tech, it has freshness, luxurious interiors, right size, awesome looks and most of everything I need in my next car (some features are bonus).

I prefer Black / Navy blue exterior with full black interiors. Will wait for test drives and reviews for choosing engine option. Now the only wait is to know boot space and the price.

Though XUV7OO is also tempting, it looks massive (I love sleek & powerful SUVs like X1), moreover I hate those headlights with elephant trunk at both ends!!

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

Dimensions on paper are slightly bigger than the competition however to my eyes, the stance does not look like suv'ish (even psuedo) .. May be its just in pictures and in real it'd do justice to the dimensions.

Also notice Disk brakes on all 4 wheels.

Price it between 9.25lac -13.5lac ex-showroom and they might have a consistent 4000-6000 units per month.

Interesting launch, looks like this car has lot of potential, MG did price hector well, so this can get a good price too. Will wait and check it out. XUV 700 does look great, but size can definitely be an issue in a city like bangalore.

Even if MG detunes the engine I am sure a remap can take care of that in near future.

The boot space on the MG Zs Ev is 470L and on the Astor it should be identical (as it is essentially the same car) with an ICE engine.
For a better idea of the boot and seating space you can check this video of the ZS EV for reference.

I was actually on the verge of booking the ZS eV, but went with a Hector plus due to range anxiety of electric cars and also the extra space offered in third row ( for my dog).

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

The offering seems good. Although the design, especially the overhangs both front and rear may be polarizing in opinion.

To me it seems like a design from over a decade back albeit with the latest tech and lots of standard safety. MG's design in this innings has always been a miss for me personally.

This would be a good, practical & safe vehicle for those that like the design.

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

Quick question to the knowledgeable lot. I am trying to understand what is MG's USP.
As in like Hyundai manufactures its own engines so do VW and Suzuki. Likewise, what does MG specialize in? Is it just that MG offers more VFM offerings by assembling parts from different manufacturers and the end product is something that works brilliantly and is reliable. Or is it that make vehicles which are so visually appealing to the mass. What exactly makes MG stand out.

Frankly speaking as an average joe I don't find anything missing in MG Astor w.r.t to engine or transmission or interiors/exterior. This made me curious to know the above

They are VFM. Both the Hector and ZS EV undercut the competition and offer more for the money. Their main negative is that they are chinese but otherwise the cars are great value compared to the Korean and Indian counterparts.

Any views on the reliability and longevity of their vehicles would be appreciated.

I have recently purchased a ZS EV and in the process had done some research on SAIC. They have been around in SE Asia, Europe and Australia. The ZS EV, petrol and hybrid
versions all have largely favourable reviews internationally.

So long as they have not intentionally compromised core components for India, I would expect things to be good. They also give a 5 year warranty as standard.

I am not sure how much of this car is localised. If we enter into some situation with China in the future, parts availability might be an issue. This is especially true for the EV as it is a CKD but the Astor might be largely local.

Re: MG considering petrol ZS for India. Edit: MG Astor unveiled

Interesting to note that MG has improved on certain shortcomings of the ZS EV's interiors. The Astor comes with rear AC vent and rear armrest. Looks like they have been listening to feedback or they really wanted to pull out all stops with the Astor.

If MG prices this well (can expect it to be competitive, if not XUV700 level disruptive!), this will be another impressive product that can shake up this segment. It ticks nearly all the boxes and even the one on size for those who are bowled over by the XUV700 but wished it were a little smaller!!

But there's department where it could be a compromise for the keen driver. And that's a big one if the Astor inherits the less than ideal steering and handling of the ZST and even the Hector, for that matter. After being such a fine overall package, I am hoping it won't be too bad in the driving dynamics front.

An interesting point to note was the tuning of the steering for different modes which is being provided. I think this will be seen in the top end. The reveal suggested Light steering for city drive and heavier steering mode for highways. I am not sure if this is true and how this can be done on different modes.
