Honda, Toyota switchover to BS6 is complete

Honda has announced that it has completed all BS4-compliant car dispatches to its dealers. Toyota has also announced that factory dispatches of BS4-compliant cars are scheduled to be completed by the end of January 2020.

All the BS4 cars of Honda were dispatched to dealers in December 2019 itself. The company has also shifted to production of BS6-compliant cars in both its plants of Greater Noida and Tapukara. All dispatches in January 2020 were of BS6 cars, which included petrol versions of the City, Civic and CR-V. The BS6 version of Amaze was launched in January 2020, while the launches of other BS6 models are expected later.

Toyota's wholesale numbers stood at 5,804 units in the month of January 2020. The company will now dispatch only BS6-compliant cars from its plants. The Japanese carmaker will commence new dispatches with the BS6-compliant version of the Innova Crysta, which was launched in January 2020.

BS6 emission norms are scheduled to be implemented from April 1, 2020. With this step, the government has jumped from BS4 to BS6 norms, skipping BS5. With the implementation of BS6, the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) reports that there is expected to be a reduction of 89% in the particulate matter emissions from two-wheelers, while NOx emissions will be cut by 76%. In the case of cars, a reduction of 82% in PM emissions and 68% in NOx is expected to be seen.

Re: Honda, Toyota switchover to BS6 is complete

I want to know if Honda has made its Civic diesel bs6 compliant. Tried to get some details about it everywhere but so far has read only about the petrol version. Is the diesel civic getting axed ?

Isn't the headline misleading. What they seem to say is that production of BS4 engines has stopped, not that all models in their portfolio have found their BS6 replacements.

The Amaze petrol and diesel were recently made BS6 complaint, so I expect the Civic's 1.6L diesel to get BS6 ready sooner or later.

A switchover can either happen by updating technology (BS4 to BS6), discontinuation (stopping BS4 models) or both. In case of Toyota and Honda, some models have been updated and some discontinued for the time being. New launches will come up soon - especially given the Auto Expo later this week. This the way these guys want to tell 'Hey, going forward, will be making only BS6 cars".
