Re: The BS6 Tata Harrier with 6-speed AT. EDIT: Launched @ 13.69 lakhs

Came across this video on YouTube showcasing the BS6 Tata Harrier XTA Dark Edition. It looks incredibly awesome, totally droolworthy. Hence sharing the video. Please ignore the content, if you wish to. Just worth a watch even with the audio muted.

Sad that Tata could not sell this in larger numbers, but then these are early days for the BS6 version. Wish they had taken their time and launched this as the initial product instead of a half-baked one.

I would not be surprised if these are for the manual variants. The Auto variants have less competition - The MG Hector does not yet have an auto variant and the Jeep Compass Auto is available only with 4X4 and astronomically priced.

However, for the manual variants, there is competition from the Hector, Jeep Compass mid variants and even the Innova. Also, there is competition from the lower segments such as Nissan Kicks and Seltos/Creta.

The XMA is poorly equipped and very few folks would consider it.

Congrats on the purchase. One question: did you purchase the Harrier front mascot from the showroom? How much did it cost?

Wow. Congratulations . My heart says that I should definitely get the Harrier and in White colour. My would be better half loves the sunroof, so it will have to be XZA+/XZ+. Let's hope the finances get better so that I can definitely plan one around the festive season. Congratulations once again. Lovely colour. Will keep an eye out for the ownership review.

The panoramic sunroof is awesome. However it’s not much use where I stay since it’s hot most year round

I was quoted around 2000 and it is out of stock. I plan to paste it before applying ceramic coating.

Can anyone advise on what this warning light represents?

^^ That is the DPF regeneration alert. It is not a malfunction.

To switch off the symbol, keep the car running until regeneration is complete
(ideally at 3rd gear, 60 km/hr. with engine speed over 2000 rpm). It takes approx. 20 minutes.

You could refer to your Owners' Manual for more information.

Congatulations on your new acquisition! I am waiting for some discounts to trick in by the time I go ahead with my purchase of the same car in XZ plus variant. The dual tone colour looks classy. I noticed that the alloys been changed to gun metal finish which further enhance the look.

I have faced similar problem in my Seltos. They had 25 min idle running at rpms>2000 & monitored with software at the service centre & advised to have 30 mins of running at speeds >60 kms/hour. I try to run the engine at higher rpms before & start of the trip and not getting engine check light signal related to DPF.

Re: The BS6 Tata Harrier with 6-speed AT. EDIT: Launched @ 13.69 lakhs

All BS6 vehicles (Harrier, Seltos, etc) have this reqmnt of an "activity" of driving around 40 kms at over 60 kmph speeds for this warning to go away (to regenerate the DPF)?

Seems like quite a bit of fuel waste, not to speak of the fact that in many metro cities, it may not be possible to drive for long at such speeds. Unless one does it at late night.

Is there any damage to the engine if this "activity" is spread out over 2-3 weeks as part of their usual commute, rather than a dedicated activity done in a day?

Its a known fact that diesel engine's with DPF do not like short city commutes. Its mandated to drive at a constant 80 kmph for 20 mins or so every week if most what you are doing are city commutes. I wonder how is that possible given our congested cities. A lot of manufacturers have now started giving manual DPF regen to avoid these specific issues, the latest one being Toyota on their 2.8 diesel engine in Fortuner/Hilux/Prado.
