Tata Sierra Reborn - Plate revived as concept in AutoExpo'20

Tata Motors has showcased the Sierra SUV concept in Auto-Expo2020

TML was teasing the rebirth of a legendary name-plate since last 2-3 days on Twitter. Many had rightly guessed it to be the Sierra! The striking concept with very good tribute to the original car's design language has now been unveiled! A very interesting design with 4+1 door body-shell still really looking like the 3-door ancestor with large side windows!

Potentially an EV Only car perhaps? I hope it gets a diesel though! Rushlane speculates that this is based on the Alfa platform of the Altroz. Looks quite large for that base. Is this the car that will plug the gap between the Nexon & Harrier? Bring it on TML!

Now there is a car worth waiting for! The list for my next car finally opens with an entry . Who in their 30's right now, didn't grow up wishing to drive a Sierra some day to Goa.

Absolutely smashing.

If they launch it in EV avatar with a range of ~500 KM. It will become a style statement.

Looks stunning to say the least! The original Sierra was a legend in itself and having owned one for a few years, I can vouch for its ride quality and comfort, not to mention the drop-dead gorgeous looks! Wish they launch it with a 4WD. Thanks for sharing.

True. Looks to me like a baby Harrier.

Stunning concept! I believe this will make it to production - and not just as a pure EV. And TATA nowadays has a good track record from concept to production.

Only one worry - the sunfilm ban and those huge glass windows! Hope it comes with UV tinted glass as stock.

You Sir, beat me to posting this!
I wonder how will they seal the rear two door from the elements. Repeated opening and closing of rear doors may induce cracks?
The glass area is fantastic and more welcome than a sunroof in our climate.

The design seems a modern take on the absolutely stunning Tata Sierra. I really would want to take it to Goa even today!

I saw one in white recently in KP, Pune and could not turn away from giving ‘n’ number of second glances.

I remember my cousin ‘winning races’ on Red Road in Kolkata from Esteems and what not.
The older vehicle had something called ‘mid-range’ which most petrol car owners of the time could not fathom! After few years though, the suspension sagged and the car started leaning right somehow in the Left leaning state( a cardinal crime) and could not be corrected.

I hope this new iteration makes it to the market either as EV or in regular form.

Regards,

Love the way how they made the styling resemble the Sierra , even with a practical 5 door layout.

Also refreshingly different from all the crossovers and coupe SUVish styling

Is this the Blackbird (Creta rival) that was looking for a platform for its size, or a standalone new model?

Always used to dream of a new gen Sierra with a big torquey diesel engine, 4x4 based on a BOF platform, but then... Something is better than nothing.

Way better use for the Sierra nameplate than the Hexa Safari one.

My buddy is pretty pumped up for the Sierra concept. His first purchase was the Harrier last year, and he is already planning to save up for the Sierra if it comes to production.

First mod am gonna do if bought would be... To paint the front door handles black

I don't see a need to worry so far. If you look at it closely - its a clever design & nothing else. There is a nice thick C-Pillar behind the "black" glass area. So the doors will have proper steel edges & sills. Pretty standard design, but with wonderful touch of overlapping glass/plastic bits to hide the pillar.

What appears like the large rear window, is actually just same 2 separate pieces that we see on any compact/large SUVs out there.

I am the only one sad at this new design.

They already have a good soft roader portfolio. I wish they kept Sierra reboot as old school & tough looking exterior design like what Mercedes does with its G Wagon but upgrading the mechanical & interiors to modern standard !!

Seems like on the RHS, there is only one door (for driver) while on the LHS, there are 2 doors. The thick C-pillar is not present on the RHS. Or, is it the angle that deceive?

BTW, the only gripe is the D-Pillar. t resembles the Grande.

The original Sierra was always a dream, it went out of production before I could buy. But if this is going to make it to production, I’m sold.

Genius way to make it look 2 door, but still retain 4 door functionality.

Have only seen sliding doors being used in vans like the Kia Carnival - but this is pure genius from Pratap Bose.

As much as I'd like to agree with you, the days of the good old "boxy" SUVs are sadly gone - the market just does not want it. The last thing Tata wants to do now is to launch a new product with a design language that is already considered "outdated" in our market! That said, the new design does bring in a wonderful amalgamation of the "Sierra touch" and Tata's new design language inspired by its JLR legacy. I'm eagerly waiting for the prod version
