You can also notice the shift lock button, again not offered on the AMT cars:

Looks like they put up an export model here. Seeing the paddle shift, Gearbox with 'P' and shift lock button I think this is actually the 6-Speed CVT hybrid version which is exported, but just labelled as AMT as opposed to what it actually is. Going by Maruti standards, I do not expect them to make the gear lever and AMT mechanism any different from the AMT boxes that is already on sale.

Edit: Just saw what it looks like the cruise control on the steering. This is definitely a 6-Speed CVT with paddle shift on display.

Specifications of the car. Note that the transmission is a 5AGS (5-speed AMT):
I was interested in the hybrid until I saw the specifications

I am of the opinion that an affordable parallel hybrid is a better option in India to mitigate range anxiety that comes with the current EVs. But this looks a series hybrid, what with only 13bhp being generated by the electric motor - it won't be enough to move the car on its own, no matter how light Maruti makes it!

A parallel hybrid which can do about 40 KM on battery alone, and can supplement the ICE to reduce emissions/ improve overall mileage would be the best of both worlds...

They wanted at least one change in each of their car to be displayed in the Auto-Expo and tasked it to respective teams. By the time they came to Wagon-R they were out of time, so picked up a flooring specialist to complete the task. So he/she must have suggested wood finish; Team negated stating the world has already seen. "How about marble finish" - Oh thats first time & they agreed.
Possibly if they had more cars, we could have seen Vitrified tile finish, granite finish.

And I used to think these body kits are coming up from some local aftermarket shops to dealers.

Guess, Baleno RS had the most decent body kit offering from MS. Those who complain about the fake front bumper air dams though, a look at the present or recent past offerings from some of the German marques may change your perception.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2020

I, for once also felt that their display was rubbish. The future concept looked too much of a concept. I even felt that they would have coloured it Steel, after seeing the Tesla truck launch.

But on a second thought, are they living in the present? Their Hybrid, might just be the rabbit out of the hat at this point, in India. Look at all the cars that are parked on the street, and count the number of apartments that give charging infrastructure. An all electric car, is possibly a non starter for most buyers. Imagine single car owners. How many, would prefer an all electric, over a hybrid?

For now, I feel Japan has invested heavily, in hybrid technology. While, China, USA, and most of Europe are inclined to go all electric, countries like ours, is still a sweet spot for hybrid, when everyone is forced to agree on emission norms.

I still see a winner, in Suzuki, but not for long

I would like to point out that the S-Cross on display had an automatic Transmission and was mostly a petrol as well. I'm sorry if it has already been pointed out before.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2020

Futuro E does look futuristic. Rest everything is already their, of course the minor changes ah!.

While Ciaz is an elegant looking car, Ciaz-S looks overdone and gaudy. The shiny black body looks out of place but not as much the rear spoiler. It is like the shoddy remake of a classic old song.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2020

So, Basically, MSIL just set up an Arena showroom and a Nexa showroom with a full set of accessorised cars for the Auto Expo?

One near term example is the diesel BS6 debacle. Maruti has been caught off-guard totally, prematurely deciding that diesel car market will die with BS6. Competition like Hyundai, Kia, Ford, etc have played their cards well - and that should, at least, temporarily - impact the market share for Suzuki.

And one long term example is safety. Although the sales aren't down because of that reason yet - Maruti Suzuki should also understand that the next Insta generation who ridicules them now, will start becoming car owners in some time and will take an aversion to their products.
Absolutely. Ford especially has stunned everyone with its 13K price hike for BS6 models, when every other automaker is either dropping diesels altogether or hiking prices unreasonably. Diesel engines still offer unmatched efficiency and that appeals to a large portion of buyers.

You're also right about the Insta generation. There was a similar situation in the US market, where the 90s kids grew up in their parents' minivans and shunned them for SUVs when they grew up. It even happened to the bread and butter car brands, with kids who grew up with their parents' Honda and Toyota sedans opting for other brands and body styles, just to be different from their parents. With the markets maturing and other brands offering great value, Maruti might be in for a very unwelcome surprise a few years on.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2020

Futuro-e looks cool! Hope MSIL won't mess it up like what they did with Espresso concept and production.

Need of the hour is Swift hybrid. The early they can bring this to Indian market the better. Liked the thought process of including petrol, CNG, smart hybrid, full hybrid and electric under one roof. Rest looks usuals. Nothing exciting.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2020

Yawwwnnnn. Well if I want to see a nexa showroom, I will go there, you don't need to set it up in an auto expo. Even if I am given money, I would not let someone do that to my father in law's WagonR. Some of these designs are an abomination. Futuro E? I don't see Maruti making this to production, even in a decade!!!

This is interesting. Do we know if it's a proper auto or AMT?

I loved the comment from one member about the vitrified tile finish.

The idea that no one can surpass them is leading to complacency. Market disruption can come from any angle. And usually market leaders are the ones who are blindsided by it. Hopefully, not so in MSIL's case.

Nexa employees who have completed S-Cross petrol sales training last month, told me that it is the same age old (read dated but reliable) 4 speed torque converter that comes with Ciaz & XL6. It a proper auto.

Even the non-car guy analysts from Kotak say "nothing exciting" from Maruti at this year's Auto Expo! This is from one of their industry reports:

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2020

To bash MS is a recent trend in t-bhp, sort of in line with TATA bashing for so many years. Is it indication that people (even outside t-bhp) started understanding the MS mentality of taking customer for granted? Can't say for now. Though I am a MS customer currently, I wholeheartedly dislike the brand now due to the same reason (they have taken everyone for granted).

Tata seeing some support lately, but ironically still masses will line up in MS showrooms not at Tata.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2020

A ray of hope and dashed in an instant. At least a Jimmy made it to Indian shores. Hopefully it gets a tremendous response and MS is forced to bring this fun wheeler to the masses.

Excerpts:

For all those people who have been waiting to see the Jimny in India, we have a piece of good news. Maruti Suzuki will showcase the Jimny tomorrow at the Auto Expo 2020. Now we must clarify here that Maruti Suzuki has no immediate plan of launching the three-door SUV in India. The carmaker only wants to gauge the market impression about the Jimny and ascertain the price bracket in which it should launch the Jimny in India in future.
