All of a sudden whole range of Tata cars look very desirable and they deserve all the attention they are getting now. Only thing missing is a rugged no-nonsense new Sumo 4x4.

Maruti need to get their act together to maintain their leadership position. Not to mention the upcoming competition from China based companies. Maruti need to bring few cars through their collaboration with Toyota as early as possible.

Jimny showcased in auto expo? Why no usual drama over this unveil? I guess this image is from some other country. The background is different at Delhi.

That picture is clearly not from Indian Auto Expo. The sign board in the background says 'Welcome' in Indonesian. So probably from Jakarta Expo of last year.

Jimny is expected to make an appearance at the expo this year. So in all probability, you might be able to see one today. I don't know why Maruti didn't showcase it any sooner. They clearly could've pulled more crowd with it. To be honest, it was the only car I was looking forward to see from the Maruti pavillion this year.

So looks like the Maruti pavilion will have some activity today. Earlier it looked like walking to any Maruti dealership (with the same old cars on display). Don't know why Maruti is now showing interest with the Jimny in India. I seriously think they won't launch this in India, else when they come up with 5 editions of the Swift (Sport, RS, Joy? sticker job), they should have launched this.

Suzuki Jimny is being displayed for a market survey. Guess from today the expo is open to the public and the survey will start now.

Maruti by and large expects a certain volume for it's models. I don't see the Jimny doing anything close. Perhaps 1000 per month. I do not think that the public is going to be flooding their showrooms for the Jimny.

The logical market for the Jimny in my opinion is the one vacated by the Thar. However even the Thar sold around 10K units per year. Is there a market for a camped, three door capable 4X4 backed by Maruti's strong after sales? I am not so sure.

It will be amazing if they price it below 10L which may make it a hit among youngsters. But somehow I am not sure that may happen given it's 4X4 tech and all that.

A 5 door variant though might be just what the doctor ordered.

Even 1000 per month is a decent volume for a vehicle with 85 litre boot and cramped legroom for passengers.

Anything below 5000 doesn't seem to be kindly looked upon by Maruti. However if they have a sizeable export market it may make sense to have trickle sales in the domestic market.
