Yes it does.But still the CVT won't let it put the power down.Plus the 1.8TSI is in a league of its own in any of the VAG cars..

Wow, never thought we’d see a Renault petrol engine being spoken about in the same sentence as the legendary 1.8TSi. Not the 1.4TSi, straightaway the 1.8! People were writing the Duster’s obituary after the demise of the K9K. Renault seems to have pulled a rabbit out of the hat here. Just price it well, against the Nexon and Ecosport and not against Seltos/Creta.

Also worth looking forward to is this motor being paired with a manual gearbox. Coupled with the inherently sorted Duster dynamics, this promises to be a surprise hoot to drive.

Turbo petrol version looks more realistic. No unwanted gimmicks and accessories. Front looks interesting. Going to be one of the mature hot SUV if they launch it with same specs(154 bhp & 250 Nm).

156 PS + 250 NM torque + Duster's ride comfort + handling + abuse friendly nature will make it an excellent package!
Hope Renault add the AWD to both the manual and automatic versions & price it sensibly! Enthusiasts + road-trippers will bless Renault for sure!

Suddenly the age old Duster got a heart which is now more lucrative than the newly launched Seltos GTX! Its now straight into the league of the Compass petrol!

Looks like they are targeting enthusiasts with this. One fly in the ointment might be the CVT. If they tweak it well, it shouldn't be an issue but if not, it's going to be a PITA to drive around the city.

Overall, the old workhorse gets a new heart. Let's see if they price it well. Absurd pricing will just kill this quickly. I really really hope they throw this combination in the Captur.

Wow, this is completely out of the blue. I am wondering whether I should have waited for sometime to switch over from my earlier Duster 110. If they launch this with AWD, will surely regret it. This one has almost all the works except perhaps for 4/6 airbags. That will make it a segment killer. Renault, throw in a six airbag version and this will match up to the Seltos. The only thing that Seltos has over this is internet bling. But that would be of no use generally except to send an SOS signal when the Seltos is stuck/or struck underneath in some urban road quagmire, which the Duster will calmly sail out of.

Now this same engine should be seen in Nissan Kicks too i guess. The Nissan CVT has been in the news from November and that would make Kicks a really good proposition. That would leave Duster with a tight price band to play with.

I use the current CVT Duster , this is seemingly much better, the leather wrapped steering, the seats, the red accents make it a good package and under 14 lacs I reckon.

Good question. Dug out a X-tronic review with the current 104 bhp petrol. Wonder how it will feel with 154 bhp:

This is a pleasant surprise from Renault. With that kind of power, it will be great to drive. Considering Duster's current ride and handling package. Though fuel efficiency might take a hit and make it less relevant against competition. Hope Nissan will use this on Kicks also.

Anyone with a knowhow of the costing thing can explain me how much costlier (In %age terms) is a turbocharged powertrain as compared to an N/A one?

It has been seen in past that turbo petrols are priced at par or above diesels (Barring the VAG), so just want to know if they actually cost so much to build or the manufacturers are happily taking us for a ride.

Most important factor - Will need to know if this engine has been localized or is being imported!

Nissan seems to have figured out a way to have a high torque CVT and Renault could simply use it:

The Duster Turbo petrol looks promising with the new engine. 1.3l Turbo petrol with 154bhp is something perfect for Indian roads. The power seems to be perfect and hope the efficiency is good as well. I am in love with Renault engines (especially the Fluence - 1.5L Diesel). That was raw power for its size and efficient.

Two things I am concerned about are -
1. Interiors which are extremely dated and need a revision. The ergonomics of Duster were never comfortable. Renault could have done something here
2. Does the new Duster feel the same sturdy as the older models were? Somehow when i last saw the new Duster, it didnt inspire the same confidence in build quality. Does anyone feel the same?
