Planning to Get 1.0 TSI with 6 Speed MT! It will be an absolute pleasure to drive this pocket rocket! Especially when you have 6 speeds to play with!

While the highline plus looks really tempting, Is it really worth considering? The model is 10 years old in India and can be axed anytime soon. Resale was never that good for VW and as a manufacturer, Skoda now pretty much owns VW in India. I might consider if there are good discounts but at 10L onroad for highline is a gamble to me. The car on the other hand should be hoot to drive.

Re: VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT

I really don't understand why VW India isn't bringing in the new VW to India. The model on sale is OLD and other manufacturers have gone past it long time ago.

Although, I can confirm the new 1.0L engines are a treat. I drive the new 2019 Polo with the 1.0 TSi, albeit at a higher state of tune (about 113BHP) and its a brilliant engine.

The internationally available MK6 Polo is based on the MQB platform and is a little over 4 metres long (53mm to be precise). If brought to India as is, it will attract increased taxes since it doesn't qualify for the sub-4m subsidy making it more expensive and pushing it outside its intended segment.

On the other hand, the cost of reengineering the model to be below 4m is an expensive affair which isn't feasible unless there is high localisation for the platform. Which is exactly why VW India is introducing the locally produced Taigun (T-Cross) which will be based on the India specific MQB-A0-IN platform. Once the platform is localised and the investment recouped, VW should introduce the facelift of the MK6 Polo.

Good decision. However waiting a bit more might garner some great discounts on the TSI edition. Currently it is priced at 7.89 lakhs and has an excellent feature set, I would expect some deeper discounting once stocks start to build up and VW feels the pressure to show some numbers post COVID. The VW manual gearboxes are usually a delight, with short precise throws and excellent feedback that makes one want to keep playing with the gears. I had the original 2010 polo for a few years and it was an absolute delight to use the gearbox, although it was only a 5 speed and a measly 75hp diesel engine (yet the 180NM torque gave it a great midrange)m which was part of the fun)

Best of luck with your purchase.

Thanks for the input! I will be anyway waiting till September due to current COVID-19 condition. If i can get TSI edition with some good discounts at that time, I will be definitely going for it. 6 speed MT + 108 hp is a mouth watering combo indeed and is the prime reason i am willing to spend a bit more for the top end variant, as my initial plan was to go for comfortline ( with 76 hp eninge )

Re: VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT

Saw the new 1.0TSI manual today. Was there to check out for 1.0TSI AT but it did not come in this load even though there were bookings for GT TSI. Manual comes at 9.3x on road in Kerala which is a great price in my opinion. GT price was told to me as ~11.4L on road with the new engine and gearbox. The highline Plus AT has all features of GT TSI and in addition it has rear AC vents too which the GT TSI misses out on. Suddenly the GT TSI doesnt make any sense for that extra money.

Did you see any TSI edition manuals? It seems to be better value than highline plus, having all of the same features, plus some stickers , for about 20 K less.

No, TSI edition did not come as of today. And yes, agree with you, that could be even more value for money.

And it looks very nice. As a long-time fanboy I am glad to see that the interior is not much altered .

Still though, two switches and five blanks: VW's way of reminding us that so much more is available but we don't get it

Re: VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT

I was lucky to get a short test drive of the 1.0 litre tsi with the manual gearbox in the Highline plus trim. Here are my observations:

1) The engine is quite refined at idle. It stays so till around 2,500 rpm after which it gets a bit noisy. Could be the 3 cylinder thrum. I felt the 1.2 tsi was more refined.

2) There is a pull around the 1600-1700 rpm mark, which gets stronger after the 2000 rpm mark. You can get to high speeds easily. I did not push it too hard, so I cannot comment how it goes through the revv range. Yes, it gets more vocal as the revvs go higher.

3) The gearshift indicator encourages you to upshift early. The car pulls easily from as low as 1200 rpm without too much of a fuss.

4) The gearbox is addictive and slick. Add to it, a light clutch and driving it around in the city is fun

Apart from this, it is the usual Polo. It costs around 9.6 lakhs on road in Udupi. It will be a great city drive for enthusiasts.

Re: VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT

My GT TSI is now a couple of years old and has about 20K Km on it. I have a Laura 1.8TSI and a Jetta DSG that are both 9XXXX KM on them and are running fine with normal wear and tear.

I can honestly say that the Polo has been one of the worst car's we have ever bought. In lower gears there is a grinding noise that comes from the gear box. It has been back to the dealer 4 times for this. It works fine for a week or so and the noise comes back. Won't touch another budget VW product with a ten foot pole.

I am not happy with the suspension and brakes, but they at-least work within whatever performance envelope VW has set for them. It is the noise and their inability to fix it that is bothering me.

I am also eagerly waiting to Test drive it! How does it compare to Swift K12 in terms of engine ?
