Re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Here's a walk-around of the base ''Rider'' variant. Damn I wish I was in the market for a beater car - 10/10 would buy this over any hatch or one of those sub 4 metre econoboxes. I'd upgrade the tyres, add alloy wheels and a RCD340G Plus Head unit with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

With this killer pricing, I seriously wish for the Rapid Rider automatic. However, Rapid did not have automatic in their base variant(Active) earlier and the pattern would most likely continue I guess. The following article adds further salt to the wound by saying that the automatic would start only from Style and not even Ambition.

Re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Any idea whether Rapid Onyx trim's 16.5 cm Drive Audio Player Central Infotainment system is a touchscreen unit? Also IMHO rear view camera is conspicuous by its absence even in the Onyx trim!
Has any one seen clubber glossy black alloys in person on the pre-BS6 Rapid Onyx variant?

Hi, yes the Rapid onyxs infotainment unit is touched enabled and interface is smooth. Unfortunately it doesn't have the rear view camera in it. It comes as at additional INR 9200/-, as I have been told.

Attached for your reference the gloss black alloys, the quality seems to be decent and hopefully withstand normal scratches.

Re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Hi, one quick question. Let's say I buy rider variant, can I get the dealer to upgrade the wheels to 16" and install clubber glossy black alloys from the onyx addition into rider without voiding warranty? I understand it can cost me north of 60k or so but if it saves me from voiding warranty I would go for it.

This colour looks really good.

Now with this variant at 7.49L, just imagine the Rider with the 6 speed AT for 8.49L. That will seriously ruffle some feathers.

10L on road for a 6 speed automatic sedan. Skoda needs to get the AT fast and not lose that advantage with VW.

Excellent idea if you have the dosh. No question of issues with warranty either. Ensure you go for the Michelin PS4 tyres too. I think they are available in 195/55/16.

In fact, check if any existing Rapid Onyx or Octavia Onyx (if the rims are the same specs) owners want to sell their Clubbers. Not everyone likes the black gloss effect. Could be much cheaper than buying from Skoda.

Re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

I happened to test drive the Rapid 1.0 Tsi today, and I must say it is an enthusiast's choice. That 3 pot cylinder, has enough for most of our needs. Handling package is also pretty nice, bit of fishtailing was observed, but then that's common with most sedans never felt nervous though! I stay in Pune, and the following was the price breakup given to me:
Rider: 8,82,000 {7,49,000(Ex Showroom) + 29,401 (Insurance) + 7,500 (Service Charges a.k.a Handling charges) + 600 (Fastag) + 7,999 (Essential Accessory Kit)
+ 86,689 (RTO)}

Skoda Maintenace Package: 29,999 (4 Years service package)

Standard warranty is 4 Years/60,000 km. Extended 6 year warranty is not clearly told yet, showroom guy told me they are probably going to receive it by next month, and we can get it extended within 2 years of purchase.

Checked with the Accessory Team, and got the following cost:
1. Alloy Wheels: INR 45,000 (New Ones with GST Invoice) / 30,000 (Buyback-Only cash, No GST Inovice, just a normal receipt slip)
2. Fog Lamp: INR 15,000
3. Seat Cover: 14,500 ( 3 years Warranty)
4. Infotainment: 42,000 ( Buy Back- Android unit approved by Skoda, although not purely OEM GST Invoice shall be given, original OEM ones cost 75,000)
5. Side SIll: INR 2800

I am considering the Rider variant, with Alloy wheels (a little bit confused with the whole buy back thing), and that's pretty much it. Infotainment can be an upgrade planned for later, as the speaker set remains same for all variants, should not have lot of variation in terms of music quality.

Overall seems like a very nice package, and hopefully will age well.
I could definitely use fellow bhpians opinion.

Can someone please confirm if Rider variant comes with Isofix child seat mounts. Seriously considering this car for beater city duties, great option!

Octavia and Rapid alloy wheel PCDs are different. Would not suit.

This spicy launch has the potential to make people reconsider sedans. Not sure if they will buy, but atleast they will land up at Skoda showrooms for a peak. Eagerly waiting for Tbhp official review.

An afterthought - this car has the potential to repeat the Creta story where customers lapped up the base (E and E+) variants and side-loaded the cars with aftermarket accessories.

The trend was discussed at length here.

Did you get a chance to talk them into waiving off handling charges and essential kit? Also, is the dealer ok if you take insurance on your own?

As long as you go for stock size alloys and tyres, you can go aftermarket also. Skoda is not going to void any warranty for that. Don't worry.

That's some relief. However, I have heard they create difficult situation for the customer with claims related to suspension set up if the customer has any modification from outside.
