re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Looks to me that Skoda launched the Rapid Rider edition last year itself at 6.99L.
https://www.skoda-auto.co.in/news/ne...on-rapid-rider

However, I just checked my November downloaded copy of BS4 Rapid and I don't see a mention of this Rider edition. So, did Skoda really sell the Rider edition in BS4?

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

I think market disruption is what is required to get attention and the VG Group has done exactly the same. If can hold onto this price for a year, we may find Skoda competing well among the sedan buyers and even cross-shoppers of B2 segment.

More so VG machines are mod friendly. Several post purchase changes would be possible in the car including features from the higher trims; this is going to generate good amount of interest among buyers.

Cheers !

This is how the old Rapid Rider looked like. Slightly plain but can be dolled up very quickly!

Attached is the old pricelist. Apologies for the poor picture quality.

From what I can see, they have essentially renamed the old Active as the new Rider by adding features like the 2DIN stereo, Auto AC etc.

I feel it's a good deal. Mind you, colour choices are only Candy White & Carbon Steel I've been told.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Good pricing by Skoda this time for the Rapid and specially for the Rider variant. It makes sense to go for this variant as it's fairly loaded and comes at a price point where sub 4 meter sedans retail in the market.
Considering that its competitors offer a lot more features and it loses its DSG gearbox paired with the Diesel engine it will be a tuff time for Skoda to sell this car in good numbers.
Verna SX is 70k cheaper compared to the Style plus variant but still offers features like push start/stop button and sunroof which we Indians like the most.

The features page actually shows 4 airbags for the Monte Carlo variant even though the brochure doesn't. I am not sure which one is right.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

From last few months, i could see "value for money" kind of aspect was give some importance by most manufacturers.

Initially i was fixated on nexon XZ+S petrol variant, but delayed coz of lockdown. Later i was confused at my own decision with creta EX petrol, and then Nissan Kicks turbo(best of all so far)...and now, Skoda are you kidding me(pleasantly)? I can buy decent skoda car at nearly 55% price of kicks?

As an non-enthusiast, i'm truly confused. Only thing that is missing(from my "need" list) in ryder edition is steering mounted controls.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Skoda should be commended for bringing out a base variant that is not just limited to papers & promotions but can be bought and used. That said, the 2.5 lakh premium for Ambition variant is pretty steep for what it additionally offers over Rider variant, the list of additional features:

- Alloy wheels

- Chrome decor, exterior & interior

- Projector headlights

- Fog lamps, front & rear

- Child-proof rear window lock(needed)

- Auto fuel cut-off in case of crash(important)

- Anti-theft alarm(needed)

- Remote controlled power windows

- Driver seat height adjustment

- 6.5 inch infotainment system(Rider instead gets 2-din audio player)

- Steering mounted audio controls

- Leather wraps on steering wheels and gear selector, and leatherette cover on hand-brake base.

- Electrically foldable ORVMs(Though not electrically foldable but Rider gets electrically adjustable mirrors, so nothing much to miss)

- Anti-pich feature on power windows

- Telephone controls on steering wheel

- Multi-functional display(needed)

- Glovebox illumination

No offense to anyone. While the entry level variant is extremely VFM and usable, the other variants are not at all competitively priced as the base variant. Skoda - Simply Clever.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

I bought the 1.6MPI Style last November for Ex-showroom price of 9.99L for what I think it's a pretty good deal and did over 7,000 km until now. I have requested the SA for a TD of 1.0L TSI too, So I can compare both the engines. I was in double minds to wait for TSI or go in for 1.6MPI, But somehow made up my mind for 1.6 MPI as the offer price was irresistible and I knew the TSI would cost atleast a lakh more. Also, you can expect some juicy discounts on the price during the festival time in coming months.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Fantastic pricing by Skoda here, guess they went all out to compensate for the shock given by the Karoq pricing.

But seriously, for someone in the market for a good driver's car, this is just perfect, the TSI engine combined with the fact that even this base model is fairly well equipped make this a sure shot buy. Skoda would probably end up cannibalizing the sales of the upper variants because of the rider which I personally dont mild at all. Good stuff here.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

The only fly in the ointment here is the horror stories of shady Skoda ASCs. If VW/Skoda fix their service networks, even those former customers who they lost due to bad experiences might give them a second chance.

I put a booking amount on the Seltos and the Creta last week and am currently holding out to see what happens with the new City. And here comes Skoda trying to make me play Twister.

I'd have to investigate with local Skoda owners to gauge the ASC.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

The VAG brought the brilliant 1.2TSI in a hatch which was lapped up by enthusiasts and the average guy looking for an automatic.
Now the brilliant (supposedly) 1.0TSI has been brought in a sedan. Hopefully the market responds well because it has both the manual and auto (later) options.

This is just the reason I love this German brand, affordable well (over) engineered cars for the enthusiastic common man.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

I have always wondered why the manufacturers don't give a decently equipped base variant. Looks like someone in Skoda has heard the market. To me this still miss out a big feature - steering mounted audio and phone controls. I would have even given the auto climate control a miss for this feature.

IIRC, My swift zdi in 2015 was 7.41L ex-showroom. This price will sure turn heads of lower segment buyers and others with similiar budget.

This car might actually be safe, than several lower segment cars with abs and airbags.

I see what you are saying but what Skoda have done is actually pretty clever. Allow me to explain.

The Rider is priced much lower than Ambition and is a great deal as it has a lot of features for the price. The only way to offset the Rider's low price is to cover up the loss in other variants.

The 2.5L for the ambition is still pretty reasonably priced overall for the features additional over the Rider.

According to me the Style and Monte Carlo are actually overpriced cause they cross the 10L ex showroom barrier meaning more road tax as well and the additional features are really not critical.

Also remember apart from chrome and alloy wheels you can't add any of the features to the Rider aftermarket. Most are inbuilt integrated options.
