Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

On road price should have been around 25 lacs. Ex show room itself is 25 lacs, that too with a 1.5 TSI. I would have paid the premium if it had 1.8 TSI or a lower tune of 2.0 TSI.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Any Idea what this means "Skoda Insurance comprises of 1st year comprehensive insurance + 3 years third party insurance". Does it mean this insurance is valid for 3 years (for the third party insurance part). So next year i have to buy only comprehensive insurance and use the current one for 3rd Party Insurance ?

Correct. Since 1 September 2018, IRDA has mandated compulsory 3 year TP insurance to be paid upfront in year 1.

Most insurers are also offering a comprehensive 3 year package (Own Damage + TP), but the jury is out on that one. Googled and found this article in the ET:

We all know that the only 7 speed dry clutch is the DQ200.

The DQ381 is found in all the 2.0L TSI engines and is a wet clutch unit.

This is the confirmation from Karoq forum: https://www.karoqforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=464
I stand corrected in this case. Thanks for researching and sharing.

In this case, the value proposition of the Karoq is further eroded. Who in their sane mind would buy this over a Jeep Compass Limited 4X4 AT? The Jeep gets a superior transmission, lots more power and grunt thanks to the diesel, 4X4 capability, better road presence, and is probably cheaper to maintain.

Finally some positive news for Jeep Compass! FCA owes one to Skoda-Auto-VW India.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Been a yeti owner for the past 7 years and a very happy one. I have been waiting for the Karoq since 2017-18 when all the hoopla around the car was there. Had paid 50k for a booking and went to visit Tafe Access in Bangalore yesterday and drove the Karoq. Good car, drives well but no doubt is not worth 31.41 otr Bangalore. Drove the superb sport line and drove well and in white and the black lettering looked absolutely smashing. If only I didn't like sedans I would have bought that knowing that 4.00 lakh premium was well worth it. The L&K version has ventilated seats but analog display.

The sport line had virtual cockpit and regular seats. Looks like Skoda are going the Hyundai way where top-end models are not actually top-end.

21.99 or even 22.49 would have made me seriously consider the Karoq but with this atrocious pricing absolutely no way I would buy it.

5 lakhs cheaper would have helped Skoda sell 1000 + units every month.
But fully loaded ,Top notch quality and ambience, 1.5 TSI + DSG combo should be a dream to drive.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

This pricing is relative to models around it and i would say all of them are overpriced. If I had not gotten such a great deal on my Kodiaq i would have never bought one. 5+ lac overpriced and its relatively the same with Karoq. Skoda/Vag know they won't get the numbers and having such big margins is the reason they are surviving and can keep their dealers happy. No doubt they are unique, classy and well built cars and there will be takers for the numbers they expect.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Had this been a PHEV with a 13KW motor along with 1.5 L TSI, it would've appealed to many at this price. Now Jeep Compass has got a big fillip without them doing anything to their product portfolio. All the talks of Jeep being overpriced doesn't pass muster now. The baton has been snatched away by Skoda with the Karoq launch.

In a year, the Creta,Seltoses et al will start at 20L INR. Time to stop thinking about cars.

On a serious note, I echo the sentiments of the majority. the Karoq is overpriced by 5 lakhs.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Look at it like this, the Karoq pricing does for the T-Roc what the Vento's pricing does for the newly launched Rapid.
While the rapid's fantastic, even the T-roc doesnt seem like a bad deal now in comparison to the Compass or well the Karoq.
Same for the Vento, its base model which is a good 2 lacs dearer which is huge if you look at it relatively, wouldn't garner much sales at all, given the Rapid Riders proposition.

Win - Win for Skoda and VAG, not to mention the outrageous pricing also gives them the space to give some amazing discounts during the festivities.

Another classic example how pricing for the size of the car is so important in India.Things like CBU, premium interiors, brilliant handling, premium interiors can be easily forgotten!

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

My 2 Cents on the Karoq:-
  • The car is currently a CBU but come 2021, it'll be a made-in-India Product. So, I feel the high pricing for this year is justified.
  • Something most of us are forgetting here is the fact that the Skôda Karoq is not a bigger Yeti, it's a Mini-Kodiaq which is being brought in as a CBU. Take into account all the features, safety and the European Specification and it suddenly may seem like a decent value proposition.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Insane pricing! Don't know what Skoda has been smoking, to launch a grossly overpriced car in such terrible market conditions.

As the only car, I'd buy the Compass or Seltos over the Karoq:

If it was the 2nd car of this house, I'd get this sexy one instead:

Skoda India probably has a limited allocation on hand, so it thought of maximising the profit. But that doesn't really speak well for the brand which already has a damaged history in India.
