A semi-independent rear suspension allows some individual rear wheel movement when one rear wheel strikes a bump. Semi-independent suspension is where the wheels are still connected but, thanks to inherent flexibility in the connections, can operate with a semblance of autonomy. In this the coil springs are mounted separately from the shock absorbers. Coil-spring seats are located on the trailing arms, and the shock absorbers are connected from the trailing arms to the chassis. A cross-member connected between the trailing arms provides a twisting action and some independent rear wheel movement.

But this suspension is not in the same league as the multi-link independent rear system that an Octavia 1.8 Tsi has. This is the holy grail of suspension designs, allowing the car to achieve agile handling without compromising ride quality. These are more complex and fairly more expensive.

Another interesting thing I notice is that the the engine compression ratio is higher for the Karoq as compared to the T Roc , that means the fuel efficiency of the Karoq would actually be better than that of the VW T Roc. If you go through the fuel efficiency parameters in the chart, they are far more detailed for the Karoq , & a comparison is given only on the the combined city-urban fuel efficiency for the two. So the bigger and heavier Karoq returns the same combined fuel efficiency as the T Roc but in actual driving conditions could return even slightly better figures. Interesting indeed !

Seems like a typo to me. I can see official specs are 10.5:1.

12.5:1 on Indian fuel or even better fuel seems way too high for a turbo engine.

It is the same engine and I don't think it is possible to change the compression ratio without changing the mechanical parts (like header, piston-connecting rods etc). If it is the air/fuel ratio, it can be changed by the software.

According to a media report, Skoda is planning to launch the Karoq, Superb facelift, and the Rapid 1.0-litre TSI on May 26, 2020.



The Karoq was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SUV will be positioned below the Kodiaq in Skoda's line-up. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU). It is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre, turbo petrol engine mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.



The Superb facelift features minor cosmetic changes like a revised chrome grille and LED headlamps, redesigned tail lights and new bumpers with chrome inserts. The car gets Skoda lettering on the boot lid instead of the circular logo. It will be offered with a BS6 compliant, 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.



The Rapid will be available with a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine producing 108 BHP and 175 Nm. At launch, the car is likely to come with a 6-speed manual transmission, while a 6-speed automatic could be introduced at a later date.

Terrible rear design for a SUV. Sorry, but this looks hideous. Will it take away the crown for ugliness from the Creta? Wonder what's happening in the world of design!

The rear has a striking similarity to the amaze. This is looking like an amaze on stilts.

It doesn't look so bad in reality. The back of these cars are taped up in white plastic film, which is probably making it look bad. The images in the opening pages of this thread (from Auto Expo) don't look anything like this!

I see one everyday and never noticed anything weird about the rear design. It does not look bad at all.
