Re: Skoda Karoq launched at Rs. 24.99 lakh

Seeing VAG price their SUVs so optimistically and people going gaga over it for no reason, I feel extremely bad for Tata SUVs such as Hexa and Harrier which have extremely competent diesel engines, priced well and decently loaded but people still choose to ignore them at times.

Re: Skoda Karoq launched at Rs. 24.99 lakh

Dear Skoda, hope you remember that this is not a vRS version of Karoq. 5 lakh rupee premium over T-Roc makes no sense.

Re: Skoda Karoq launched at Rs. 24.99 lakh

The pricing should have made some sense if it was available with 2.0 tsi/tdi engine and awd, definitely not with 1.5 tsi and DQ200 transmission.

Seems like a strategy to push Troc sales first. Once TRoc is sold out they will start offering discounts on Karoq. Seems like Skoda VW got a lot of booking cancellations and are wondering what to do with the CBU's that have already landed.

However I still feel the TRoc pricing was spot on in the first place. It is almost the same price here as it is in International markets.

Suddenly, the Harrier Auto makes sense, if only Tata mentioned that it still existed!
It is a well built and beautiful product, better looking than Kodiaq. Only thing it lacks is AWD. Then it could have been called a Yeti replacement which too was overpriced like it.

One thing for sure it will stop people calling Jeep Compass overpriced. But don't compare Karoq with Seltos or Creta as they don't fall in same category. If we go by that logic than it is value for money comparing it with Audi Q3 and X1.

It has the road presence of a white Vitara Brezza.

Re: Skoda Karoq launched at Rs. 24.99 lakh

Missed the launch video but I got the gist of it from Zigwheels Youtube. Did Skoda explicitly say the Karoq is competing directly with the Jeep Compass?

Has Zac not noticed the falling sales figures for the Compass over the last year?
Or is this Karoq going to be imported in small batches and Skoda thinks they can mint money by selling at a premium?

Awd Karoq at that price is understandable. It would have undercut the Longitude Compass 4x4.

If skoda loaded it completely, incl AWD, pricing could have been justified. Skimping on features and pricing it high is a double whammy. I think they were led on by Octavia vRS success where customers feedback would have been that they are paying a premium for CBU attribute of the car.

Atrocious pricing will hopefully push some customers to Harrier. It is a truly wow product. That's why I love Indian and Ford cars. Well priced with unbeatable VFM.

Actually, Indian customers deserve to be fleeced. The way vast majority queues up for below par products of phoren brands. Example, elite i20 with a 3* safety rating and Hyundai cutting corners on safety is a prime example. This blind faith in 'brand for anywhere but India' has led to this. Another example is Creta, which at nearly 18-19L is poor value with the 'hatch on stilt DNA'. No offense to the owners, please.

Look at how Honda and Toyota fleece every penny with continuously decreasing value proposition. And look at how shabbily they have treated us with the BS VI norms.

Proud owner of:
1. 2 WagonR (sold) - around 90k kms each
2. Tata Manza aura+ (sold) - 125k kms
3. XUV 500 W8 AWD (sold) - 95k kms
4. S cross delta 1.3 - 80k kms
5. Hexa XT 4x4 - 8k kms

Next car will be nexon electric or xuv300 when I replace my s cross.

Re: Skoda Karoq launched at Rs. 24.99 lakh

I can't say I am too surprised with this price. I believe Skoda has simply followed the pricing strategy followed elsewhere and priced the Karoq between the Octavia and the Superb.

The Karoq comes with the DQ381 box and not the DQ200.

A lot has been said about the pricing and it is definitely unreasonably high. However, I don’t believe Skoda are going after volumes at all with the Karoq. It is completely a brand positioning exercise in the SUV space. Two parts to this strategy IMO:

1. Create a halo presence with this car for the Skoda brand, keep excitement alive in SUV Space until the Kamiq is lunched. Cement the perception as a premium player in the SUV space. Then when the Kamiq is launched, price the it aggressively so that the market feels like they are getting a premium product at a good price.

2. Limited allocation of a few 100 units to India, remember the Karoq is very popular globally. Price it as high as the market would take (in line with strategy above) to just about sell the allocated units in the rest of 2020.

Is this confirmed. All I can find in UK Karoq forums is that only the 4x4 version comes with the wet DSG. The 1.5 EVO FWD comes with the DQ200 dry clutch only.

I find it strange as well. Why would they plonk the much more expensive DSG in FWD vehicle.

Correct. Only the AWD version gets the DQ381, the FWD gets the DQ200.

This does not seem to be the case. Many people world over were speculating which gearbox does the Karoq 1.5TSI have. Looks like the confirmation received so far from UK dealers is that it gets a 7 speed dry clutch DSG.

We all know that the only 7 speed dry clutch is the DQ200.

The DQ381 is found in all the 2.0L TSI engines and is a wet clutch unit.

This is the confirmation from Karoq forum: https://www.karoqforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=464
